Post-1945, five clubs have spent just one season in the English top flight. Can you name them?

Barnsley
Swindon
As I've said before, the Full English is just the base upon which the Scots/Welsh/NI have improved upon. Sorry but the Full English is the worst of the British breakfasts.

Ah mate, you have made a fool of me! The one I had in mind was Gary Gillespie, who wore everything from 2-11 except 9, plus 12 and 14. Checking Ablett, he can match that while Venison surpasses it. He wore 12 different numbers including all from 2-11.
I will bow out now with my tail between my legs, but having stumbled upon a nugget of trivia.
:thumbup

I didn't realise it was that chaotic during that era.  It sounds like Kenny just dished out the outfield shirts anyhow from game to game and then the big names like Rush and Barnes pulled rank to get 9, 10 etc.  More junior players in that dressing room like Stan, Gillespie, Ablett and Venison were left holding whatever shirt nobody else took.

Out of interest, where are you researching this from?

So was the answer Barry Venison? That was the other one I thought of but it’s easy to say that after the event!

The book Liverpool The Complete Record by the Icelandic blokes who run lfc.history. The last print edition is from 2011, the info is all on their website but it’s quicker checking in the book.

I messed up. I thought Gillespie was the only one to wear 11 numbers while in fact Ablett and Staunton did too and Venison beats them with 12.

My original question unravels a little more with every post! Never mind, I will try another.

Name players who have worn three or more numbers in the squad number era. There are at least two of them.

You have to list the numbers too!

I think Speedy did caveat it that it had to be in the era before squad numbers.  That mad derby match where Westerveld got sent off must have been after squad numbers came in.  I reckon that match was the only time I ever saw Owen lose his head and he still didn't get red carded.

12 and 14 as sub, he was number 15 in the 1990 charity shield but didnt come on.

Bloody hell mate, you don't know how much you have just helped me with a mystery I have had for years. Nothing to do with a quiz question.

I have got the grey 1990 kit signed by the whole squad. My dad won it at a sportmans dinner in 1991 in Hunts cross. I have had it valued and confirmed it is a players edition shirt (embroidered adi, crest, football league badges etc).

But it has the number 16 on it and have never figured out where it is from, as subs used to be 12 & 14. It has done my head in for 30 years!

I just checked and Magilton had a #16 shirt for the charity shield. It must be from that game! I never considered the charity shield. It could still be from just a friendly I guess, but not sure they would use the football league badges.

You don't know how much that has made me happy figuring this out. Thank you!

Oh wow I love this

Just to note the kit was worn in both the 1989 and 1990 shields, both for unused subs, It might be from 1989 when it was aldridge's number.

Magilton as you say had it in 1990

drop us a PM about this shirt please, dont worry I dont wanna buy it

edit, from google, if its a charity shield game its 1990 as the league badge wasnt used in 1989
