I listened to Kenny's press conference on Saturday and thought that he would get some flak from the media on it.  I have to say I don't get too excited about what the papers say because it's usually bollocks and they are trying to sell papers and catch up with the television on stories so they will try all sorts of ludicrous angles.  And its usually crap.  And mis-informed and the rest but as Kenny said it's just wrapping for fish & chips.

However, that one in the Guardian was a bloody disgrace.  Likening Kenny's reaction on Saturday to the post traumatic stress he was under as a result of Hillsborough.  Truly horrific that and the Guardian should be ashamed of a piece like that.

On Kenny's reaction Saturday though, I wonder was he purposely saying what he did to draw attention from the media onto himself and not the team?  The shrewd highly intelligent Kenny knew exactly what he was at. We may now get a more favourable refereeing performance on Sunday as a result.  Also, poor decisions from Clattenburg does not take away from the fact that we should have won the game anyway.  To have 73% of possession and so many shots on target and no return is something that we would need to work on and if the media focus on Kenny and the referee then so be it because it will allow the team get on with the more important business of winning games.

Referee's for our games so far this season have been so inconsistent

The treatment of Suarez as well is beyond a fucking joke you can basically kick the living shite out of Luis and the Referees will let it go

Richardson   - Straight Red Card - Yellow given - Phil Dowd

Andy Carroll - Perfectly good Goal Scored - Goal not given - Phil Dowd

Arshavin pushes Martin Kelly to the ground - Blatant Free Kick to Liverpool - Play allowed to continue - Martin Atkinson

Zak Knight grabs hold of Suarez's leg - Penalty to Liverpool - No Penalty given (why was Suarez not boked for diving?) - Lee Probert

Robinson pass back to the Keeper - Free Kick to Liverpool - Nothing given Keeper has the ball - Lee Probert

Matthew Upson clearly Handles the ball - Penalty to Liverpool - Corner given - Mark Clattenburg

Rory Delap handle the ball from Kuyt's Header - Penalty to Liverpool - Nothing given - Mark Clattenburg

Carragher hardly touches Stoke Player - Not a Penalty - Penalty to Stoke - Mark Clattenburg

Nearly two biggie's per game and the little things there getting wrong as well the simple things giving corners/ throw ins the other way?????

The debate will rage on and on and on Bent or Shit....................

Everyone says shit but can all 4 really be that fucking incompetent?

Head of the Referee's association; Alex Ferguson
Head Referee: Mike Riley
Referee's: Probert, Clattenburg,

I still remember him sending Sami off after four minutes against ManU for a clean challenge.

He is just a big big Manu c*nt. No wonder such treatment we are now getting

That is ridiculous mate, no offence. It was far more complicated than that.

Maybe it was different points of the season but you cannot deny that at 0-2 down, it was looking highly probable that United would drop points.  You also can't deny that the penalty - and lets face it, it was farcical - gave them the momentum to go on and win the game at the business end of the season.

Not saying it handed them the league but it sure gave them a peg up when they needed it!

The reason you can't have Video Tech in football is simple. It's too subjective. Ask 100 people and 10 referees about 1 decision and you won't get 110 similar views.

It's not as clear cut as cricket for example - did it hit the bat? would it hit the stumps? These decision are not open to interpretation and can therefore be rightfully reviewed with video evidence. The only thing you can bring into football is goal line technology, for exactly the reasons cricket uses it. Is it over? Is it not? Simple decision.

Anyway, good to see Kenny's meeting with the refs association went ahead. I look forward to some key decisions going in our favour over the next few games.

I kinda see where you are coming from. The decision is agreeing on the entry point for technology and how it is managed. You are right goal line technology is 'accurate' in the way Hawk Eye is for tennis and cricket.

The more exciting implementation would be for 'offside' goals. IMO if you can judge the winner of a photo finish in a 100metre race you could do the same in an offside situation.

Anyway this is getting away from the King's speeches.

Because play will become tedious and utterly broken, making games really shit to watch. I agree with Mushy, the only thing they could do is have some type of hawkeye for the goalline, and that's it. No challenging from managers, no on field video review, none of that, because it fucks the flow of the game, and the game will change completely and not for the better. It'll become the get out for refs for every decision that they have even a minor doubt about. Video review is already massively overused in the likes of rugby, where all the spontaneousness  (is that even a word?) for a try. Could you imagine the likes of webb or dowd and the sheer pleasure they would take in making teams wait to find out the results of a video review? It'd be appalling!

Anyway, it's off topic sorry, just wanted to get it off my chest! Great to hear what Kenny's said, it's the right way for things to be done, and once again it's us, Liverpool, who are showing how things should be addressed.

I agree with you.

As a fan though it is frustrating as a TV fan watching slow motion replays and seeing a decision is categorically wrong. Does it have to be drawn out? Couldn't a video ref be made to make a decision with in 20 seconds and send it straight down to the ref's ear peice. No need to make a grand spectacle out of the decision.

It is Dan, it's shit watching stuff at 100x slower speed and seeing the ref got it wrong, but that's just the way it is. Take the human out of the game and we'll be right in the shit. Not only that, do you really think that Fifa, Uefa, the FA or the Prem would miss a chance to make things utterly theatrical with the decisions. They don't give a fuck about what's actually good for the game, just what makes good viewing so the lucrative cash keeps coming in. 20 seconds tops is what it shoudl be, i'd wager it'd end up over a minute, which has stopped the game, all the players have stopped, any momentum that either side has is utterly gone, etc etc. It'd ruin it mate.

"It was good to see Mike and we had an extremely informative and amicable discussion, which has given us all a better understanding of how things operate," Dalglish said. "It's our job to best represent the club and protect its interests. Seems to work fine in rugby.

But you know why Corkboy? They use it to see if a try is a try. i.e. is it over the line or is the foot in touch. Clearcut decisions. Rarely is the video ref used to contest a foul/decision "in play". The other difference is that Rugby rules are SO MUCH clearer in their interpretation compared to football that the refs by and large get everything right. Football is so much more subjective than any other sport it makes it (imo) a non-starter.

It's an interesting debate. Is there a thread for it already?

Are they bollocks. You can tell within 2 minutes of turning a game on if a ref is Northern or Southern Hemisphere (Unless it's Wayne Barnes who I think comes from Mars). Very few refs have a clue when it comes to the dark arts of the scrum, and that is normally refereed very badly.

Agree there. Every cock on the pitch as well as the managers, assistants, linos etc... will contest almost every single decision and can you imagine last weekends game away to Stoke?
That would've been the most boring game on the planet for quite some time. There was a "decision" almost every other minute!
In those sort of mathces, you could end up awarding 30-45 minutes of extra time.

Nah- I agree- goal-line tech should be the absolute maximum. We can live with the other decisions(maybe review offside-tech later on).

Poor Kelly Cates (nee Dalglish). All she did was ask whether David De Gea would be facing Chelsea on Sunday after Anders Lindegaard's stellar performance in the 1-1 draw with Benfica. "I don't know why you ask these questions, you're just looking for stupid little things," snapped Ferguson as he confirmed that the Spaniard would return. "I've said a thousand times before I'm not here to pick my nose," said Lindegaard...}

EDIT: He's cracking up! He's cracking up! The drunk tramp is cracking up! ;D
EDIT2: *shakes fist in the air*... Damn you auto-corre-e-e-ect!
Ahem- Replace "Mr Alex Ferguson"- in the url- with "*ergie" (* should be a capital "F")

But he'd make the shortlist

Not to keep this off topic, but my opinion on video is only goal line issues, or if a penalty is given.  If the penalty is not given, play continues.  But if there is a penalty given, there is always at least a minute of surrounding the ref and complaining etc.  In that time, a decision can be made if it was a dive or legit or a handball.  If the ref doesn't call anything in the first place, nothing is reviewed.

This is going to sound mega gimicky, but a challenge system could work like in tennis. But just limit it to one challenge per team? if they are right they keep their challenge to use again.  :-\

Edit - Gawd this would be so cheesy lol

Good point.

Agree with all but one. Carragher did give away a penalty. He has been getting away with it for years !

You could possibly argue that Carra was fouled before he gave away the penalty, but otherwise that decision was correct and it was the ones that weren't given that were the problem in that match.

Re: Carra.  If roles had been reversed we would all have wanted a penalty.  The shoulder was a bit of a barge but you can't have your arms around a player like that when they're running into the box.  It was stupid and it WAS a penalty.

I love Kenny's press conferences and I love watching the faces he pulls as a journo asks him a question.

Most people in this world are tits. The fact they have an allegiance with Liverpool Football Club doesn't change that.

This whole debate about video technology.. I think it should be used for checking if a ball has crossed the goal line and probably nothing else. That way it will only take a short time to see if the ball is in or not, probably shorter than it does for the refs to decide today with both teams chasing them around the pitch. It would also be absolute. I don´t think it should be used for anything else really, cause there´s usually more than a few offsides every game and if they were gonna check the replay all the time that would take too long.

Could also be used to see if a player is felled inside or outside the penalty area since those decisions also seem to take a minute or two to decide..
Don't fuck with Sheryl Crow. Or Russel Crow. Or the guy from the crow. Or crows.

Best staying away from Leslie Crowther, too.... just in case.

No need to do even that, there is a better ball-chip technology by Adidas that informs you about that within a millisecond. No need to stop the game at all. The ref can have a watch with a screen, which when a ball goes in it signals: "GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAL" (it can go together with the appropriate South American voice track.)
Cruyff: "Victory is not enough, there also needs to be beautiful football."
