Anyone know any pubs in Aintree near the racecourse that will have the Gerrard game on? We will be going to shop for kitchens but will need to see this too obviously. Rocking horse already said they don't have BT sport.
The Black Bull - A quaint little establishment on the Vale, that has a warm welcome and a fine selection of fine ales and wine. Just don't look the locals straight in the eye. Everyday, is a piss-up day in the Bull. :)

I recommend Wren for the Kitchen. Build quality sound and the best selection of styles out of all the Kitchen people.

All part of the regeneration that's going to be happening in the area . Went to Berry & Rye on Friday night - was very impressed. Felt like I was in Bugsy Malone.

Also went to that Maya underneath Lucha Libre - very good in there too

Alright lads, long time listener, first time caller.

I've got a mate up in Liverpool working at the moment and obviously it falls on me to show him around and look after him on his days off and shit. Problem is I haven't been out in town for the best part of a decade being what you might call 'a shut in'. Managed to blag my way through our first meeting via a few scoops in the shipping forecast and then down to matthew street to do the obvious touristy thing.

I've got him all day saturday and sunday so I figure i'll get him on the ferry and then go down the albert dock for a while but i'm struggling with what to do with him after that so I'm just looking for a few recommendations for decent pubs/bars/clubs I can take him to on Saturday evening, hopefully avoiding the scally meat markets like yates, spoons and concert square. don't mind paying a bit more for a pint if it's somewhere with a decent vibe/ambience. Any/all suggestions very much appreciated.

Can't go wrong with hitting Seel Street mate. Salt Dogs, Alma, Heebies. Decent area of town.

If you fancy a walk (get your thirst up) then the Camp and Furnace on Jamaica Street (at the Parliament St end) is good for a beer and very different to most places. Food is great as well if you're going for a roast on Sunday.

Seconded. Peacock is a good little bar too and then Mojo if you're after more of a club.

It's guna be my first time heading out at the weekend in Liverpool in 3 years so I was just wondering what places should I go or avoid on Saturday and Sunday night.

Going over to the game with 4 lads. I've been out plenty midweek but is there different places open at weekends ?

I wouldn't mind trying a few different places rather than O Neills the whole time.

finally gave berry and rye a go on monday, cracking place for a drink with a great decor. were seated and given a round of drinking water and menus before placing our cocktail orders. between us all we had a number of different drinks (old fashioneds, singapore slings and the likes) everyone enjoyed their drinks. if your looking for a diferent place to go when bar hoping during a night around town I'd highly reccomend it. probably best to go their earlier in the night as the cocktails were around £7, but certainly worth it.

Decided to visit some bars tonight, the ones which have been on my "to do" list for far too long.

Had my debut pints in The Caledonia, Peter Kavanagh's, and The Grapes.  Enjoyed them all.

Liverpool is so damn good for drinking pints.

Went to Motel bar on saturday, enjoyed myself and it's good place to start off. Music on in there is good and not too loud, it's table service and the beer is good - Their own brew and anchor steam on tap, I was happy. Wasn't too unreasonable either - 5 of us had 3 schooners and a shot each, 1 had a pint, single and double vodka and shot and it was 11 quid each - not bad for town.

Defo recommend it.

My new start point before a selection of Salt dogs/brooklyn mixer/aloha/santa chupitos and a few others

Went to Santa Chupitos at the weekend and the service is ridiculous. Ended up walking out after standing at the bar for near enough 20 minutes waiting to be served. Its an all male staff so girls who had a hint of lippy and eyeliner on always got served before the lads. Quite a few left along with us.

Fleet Street.

Hanover end.  You will approve I think Rhi.  Tunes are more left-field bluesy/rock which is a nice change.  Not many bars in the town centre where you might hear Waits or Beefheart

Need to try this place out.  Whiskey and Waits is a win.

Am I right in saying this is Rob Gutmann's place?

And as promised... dissertation submitted yesterday... tonight's line up = Motel Bar and El Bandito. 8)

Nice one Rhi.

Off to see Giant Drag this evening so might try Motel after that...  might stick to the comfortable old shoes of Mello though, particularly as I keep forgetting to pick my mug up.

Went to Motel last weekend. It's good but it was pretty quiet for 11 on a Saturday night. It's slightly out the way being at the Havover Street end of Fleet Street, so it won't benefit from a huge amount of passing trade. I'd go back though.

Been itching to get to Motel over the last few weeks. Don't get into town enough and I'm of the age/stuck with a turd social circle who'd rather dick about and go to the Krazyhouse. Can't hack that stuff. Would rather sit with some good music and enjoy myself. Miserable.

Is Friday night any good in town these days? Haven't been out in Liverpool for a while, going out with a mate I met travelling - any recommendations for fairly lively places with decent beer for tonight?

Interested in checking out Motel but not sure if it'll be dead on a Fri.

Any help would be great, cheers!
