Should be a really good series, I am expecting England to sneak it 2-1. Looking forward to it...

Literally a once in a lifetime opportunity Captain ;)
Not any more DK.

Soon retaining the Ashes will become a bi-annual event.

PS. We've won it down there twice in my life already I think, not a lot I know but it's only the Border era that started this one-sidedness.

Thank god we have the in-form Ferguson and Khawaja in the squad. That White and Hughes are clearly shit.

if you offered me a draw at the gabba now i'd take it. our record there is abysmal. i think we'll get progressively stronger as the series goes on.

Agreed. A draw à la 1998 would be very welcome.

Winning the toss and batting would be a major boost. Even with the current weather conditions in Brisbane, you want to be making the most of that track.

I've never understood why White was not considered as a Test Match player. He seems to be so consistently destructive in one dayers and is a bit of a leader too. I know his leggies aren't great but they are worth a few overs and I would definitely bat him 6.

Is it that he cannot play short pitch bowling ?

I think I'd take a draw too just to get into the series. I don't think there'll be a result at Adelaide and the longer it stays tight the more pressure will come on the Aussies as the home side and the side that needs to win.

However, Anderson is the best swing bowler on both sides probably although Hilfenhaus has a good away swinger and in the right conditions, he could be very dangerous at Brisbane.

Start close now, and still close to call.

Does anyone know if there will be reviews or any of that jiggery pockery in this series ?

Nah I think he can handle the short stuff. Problem is he's not from New South.

He is definitely a leader, having captained Victoria since he was 20, during which they have become the strongest state team over the last 3-4 years. Also an excellent fielder.

The problem is that people think he should be an all-rounder, when really he is just a very good batsman. His first class numbers over the last 3 seasons are 49.86, 57.75, 47.00, the numbers of not just an impatient slogger, but then he also has that ability to take the game away Gilchrist style.

Forget the bowling, as captain he shows zero confidence in his own bowling and hasn't bowled himself for years. Apparently he almost never bowls in net sessions either.

But no, North is better.

Nice. I love South Australia! ;)

Cracking city as well - is there still in a big rivalry between the states then? You obviosuly think NSW gets preferential treatment. Is that a media thing or are your selectors old NSW players?

Come on then, what are your all time Ashes elevens?

http://www.espncricinfo.com/magazine/content/story/magazine/ashes_alltime.html

Mine goes: Jack Hobbs, Matthew Hayden, Denis Compton, Don Bradman, Steve Waugh, Ian Botham, Adam Gilchrist, Harold Larwood, Fred Trueman, Shane Warne, Dennis Lillee.

I trust the King, but if we lose a few more on the trot now - he may have to step aside, and we have to purchase another manager in the middle of the season. If we are relegated, this could be the end of our ambitions to win any title the next 100 years.

For me it just started out as a joke because it seemed half the Australian team played for NSW. But over the years it just seems that it becomes easier to get into the team when you play for New South Wales. Hauritz getting into the team after moving to New South is an example. Out of all the average spinners we have, why exactly did he get the nod? Watson moving to New South and getting continued backing by the selectors after having done nothing for so long. Then you have people like Brad Hodge breaking records in first class cricket and unable to get into the team. Darren Lehman for so long. Matthew Elliot not getting the backing a New South Welshman would have received (clearly I am bitter). David Warner becoming a one day international player before even playing a first class game for NSW. And so I cant help but think what White's career would be like if he was a NSW player. As David Hookes said "when they give out the baggy blue cap in NSW, they give you a baggy green cap in a brown paper bag as well to save making two presentations".

Excellent side. I'll have McGrath instead of Trueman but otherwise happy with the bowling and the keeper. Batting goes Hobbs, Sutcliffe, Chappell G, Bradman, Hutton, Botham

That was the main one I think I maybe got wrong. In hindsight, I'd have probably stuck Len Hutton in with Hobbs. It was a toss-up between McGrath and Trueman, but Fred won me over on the basis of his nationality!

Waugh captain over Border? Tough call that one. Let's go for Brearley.

Nah. Obviously Brearly is held in high regard because of his captaincy in 1981, not least because he was recalled to the side specifically to captain it. He never scored a test match century though, let alone one in the Ashes, so as much as I love the guy, I'd have to give his spot to Waugh or Border. You're right though, that is a tough call.

K will probably follow it online, since US has virtually no idea what cricket is.
