i thought it was for all devices, they had made it sound like it would JB absolutely everything, the wankers :)

There are technically jailbreaks for the 3G and 3GS on iOS 4.1 that have been out for a while but I've not tried them. Plus you need certain bootroms and you need to have jailbroken them a certain way previously

yeah, i've seen them, downgrade to 3.1.2, jb with whatever, then upgrade using a custom ipsw to 4.1

i just can't be assed, i'm currently on a non JB 4.1 old bootrom 3GS

if i get bored i can always downgrade using the SHSH blobs i've saved on cydia and JB

yeah my mum and brother have 3GS's and were asking about it. But it looks far too complicated to go into

I'll edit the front page with the new walkthrough when it comes out.

Think this is pretty important.

The jailbreak coming on Sunday is technically a teathered jailbreak (meaning if the phone powers off at any point you have to find a computer and jailbreak it again to make it work). This jailbreak is a bootrom exploit which means that apple cant simply patch it with a firmware update and has to do a hardware update in order to block it. So anyone who hasn't got an iphone 4, a 4G ipod touch and an ipad and wants one the best time to get one is now.

Now as an added bonus one of team has added an extra step to the jailbreak process making this jailbreak on Sunday an unteathered jailbreak. The only problem with this is that this extra step is userland exploit which can be patched very easily with firmware iOS 4.2.

So the jailbreak on Sunday will be an unteathered jailbreak but any any jailbreak after this one will be strictly teathered.

The reason for this is that whilst there are plenty of holes that allow a jailbreak to happen, the guys that find them and use them to release jailbreaks dont want to make it easy for apple to fill them int with constant updaes (like the 4.0.1 - 4.0.2 firmware upgrade).

Is that a good thing?
Yes. It means it will stay jailbroken even if switched off.

Still at least it's for all devices and not just the A4 based ones

Its stupid because it uses a totally different hole than the Greenpoison hack. So now instead of apple only closing one and saving the other for a future jailbreak for the new bootrom they now close both and make it harder for these guys to jailbreak the phone in the future

Since Geohot is being a little attention seeking bitch Greenpois0n will now not be released as they want to save the hack for the next firmware

I'm jailbroken on 4.0.1. Is it worth me updating and rejailbreaking with limera1n, and if so, why? What are the advantages of 4.1?

Also, is there any way to properly back up your Cydia apps? AptBackup has never worked for me before.

I went from 4.0.1 to 4.1 today on my iPhone 4. No real reason why. just to try out the new hack and to clean up my cydia apps.

I did a full wipe on mine so the only backup I did was to contacts, texts, emails.

No change to to the signal. If you've noticed problems with your proximity sensor and want to try out the game centre then maybe its worth a go. But if your happy with what you've got right now then just stick with 4.0.1

I keep getting

"This accessory is not optimized for this iPhone"

"You may experience noise caused by cellular interference and a decreace in cellular signal strength"

pop-up on my phone.

Nothing else is happening, but does anyone know if i should do anything about it.

I've changed the first page to account for the new Limera1n jailbreak.

But I'll repeat myself here too

DO NOT UPGRADE TO iOS 4.1 IF YOU WANT TO UNLOCK YOUR PHONE!!! YOU CANNOT CURRENTLY UNLOCK AN IPHONE 4 RUNNING iOS 4.1. IF YOU WANT TO KEEP YOUR UNLOCK THEN STAY ON 4.0.1

never seen that message before. Are you trying to use a 3rd party bluetooth headset? Or are your earphones/headphones old or 3rd party.

If thats the case then the headset might not be properly supported. If your headset/headphones still work fine with it then just ignore the message and carry on enjoying.

Nope, I'm not actually using anything with it. The phone is just sat there, and it will pop up.

Just had a quick google. Looks like the problem is either water damage or dusty dock connector. Try getting a clean toothbrush and clean out your dock connector.

If its really clean and your still getting the same message try leaving the phone in a pan covered in a dry uncooked rice overnight and see if that draws out the moisture

is it 2nd generation?

It works on iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch 3G, iPad, iPhone 4, iPod Touch 4G 4.0-4.1 and beyond (Plus the new Apple TV)

Those with an iPhone 3G and ipod touch 2G will have to remain on iOS 4.0.1 and use the jailbreakme hack.

If it is try restoring your ipod to 4.1 and do a full reset before trying again

Been having trouble with iTunes not picking up the iPod... The PC picks it up, just iTunes doesn't. I've got the newest (i think?) iTunes Version 10.0.1. Been onto the apple website and done what they said to do if this happens - still nothing.  :butt

Any advice? Ta in advance mate.

Have you gone through every step in the guide on the first page of this thread? Try it again today and there is a new version out

Have you tried doing a full reset of your ipod before going through with the jailbreak? Try that
