I think you're missing the point, that we're having to do their jobs for them.  If a manc farts in Glazers direction it's headline news on Northwest tonight, we're lucky if we get a mention in the sports section for anything we do with the exception of roumers about our player leaving.

Their business is news, we're putting it on a plate for them.  They should be thanking us.  How many people would be doing this email maybe 200 or so, I delete more emails than that a day from my companies system, I don't bitch and moan about it.  It's pathetic.

if they were all from one company reckon you'd have something to say about it
I think that's probably the most moronic argument that I've ever seen on this site and believe me, there's a fucking lot of competition for that particular title.

Also missing the point.  You are wanting people to do something for you, in order to give yourself the best chance of that happening then you surely start by getting them onside, and then you make it as easy as you can for them to do what you want.  You do not discrupt their working day with mass email campaigns and then wonder why they are rather pissed off.

Unless the subliminal subtext is that you are attempting to blackmail them into action with the threat that the email flood will continue until they do as you ask of course.

The fact is though that if they were doing their job even to a reasonable level, then this wouldn't be necessary. You wonder what goes on in their little air-bubble heads most of the time. Not much it seems from the 'quality' of their output.

Indeed.  If a supplier was to bombard my inbox with emails then there is no way his products would be getting added to our inventory.  Regardless of whether he thought I was doing my job right or not.

Your opinion of the person or how well they are doing their job is irrelevant.  You are wanting them to work with you, the best way to achieve that is not by pissing them off and implying they are crap.

Seems fucking obvious to me.

And do those emails you receive achieve anything for the sender?  No.  The point here I thought was that we were attempting to achieve something.  Sending people annoying spam isn't going to do that is it.

To be fair, it can't do any harm. The English media are hardly a worthwhile entity are they? They simply cannot handle doing anything worthwhile. They may hook onto hard work done by other people now and then, but by and large if the English media vanished overnight then no one would miss it

Ive sent Mr Wright a reponse to his email. Hopefully he'll get it, which I doubt but you never know

Dear Mr Duncan Wright,

I am writing in reponse to your email you have sent to a fellow Liverpool supporter this morning.

Firstly this mass email campaign has nothing directly to do with SOS. FACT. Secondly I appreciate your comments and i quote,

"Trouble is, you want us to be sympathetic, but an orchestrated campaign which involves thousands of emails blocking up the system only serves to disgruntle and alienate people in the media who love nothing more than to spend three hours hitting the delete button"

May I put it to you, that if only a hanful of people contacted you then you would not consider it 'newsworthy' as it would be deemed to not represent the majority of supporters opinions.

I personally believe that we as supporters and fans of football have the right to be heard, and the media who have the ability to make the world change its opinion and the way things are done should start actually reporting the truth about the way our clubs are being bled dry by the negligient owners & associates who try to play chess with our national sport.

Everything stems from the common man. You write opinions for the common man to read. Your bread and water is facilitated by the common man. The common man is the root. You are the common man. But it seems to me that your not willing to fight for the common man. You're not willing to fight for yourself, for whats good & for whats right and for what made this country what it is today.

You know the situation is dire. You know something has to be done. But you continue to sit back and do nothing. For once, why not take the bulls by the horn and be a shepherd instead of the sheep.

Make these people accountable for their actions before its too late, because once it is too late their will be no return.

Yes, I admit our email protest may seem desperate, but this is where we are. We NEED YOUR HELP. Show us that you understand our plight and the emails will stop.  Show us that you understand the people, who buy your paper everyday. Who just want to go and see their team play on the pitch and not have to worry about whats happening in the boardroom and the emails will stop. Show us that you actually care  about our national sport and the emails will stop.

It only takes one action from you to get one of your journalists to follow up on our emails. Remember, although this is specific for Liverpool FC, it could be the start of something great, giving back whats rightfully the common mans. Giving other supporters hope. Giving them something to believe in. Giving them a sense of pride once again.

LETS GET OUR CLUBS BACK BECAUSE ITS THE PEOPLE THAT MATTER.
We just leave them be for a while, take a breather, let them settle, then bang!  All over them like a tramp on chips.

Not sure you've got the point of this? An open letter is a letter (In this context) which has been printed in National Media sources. He will 'see it' because the Nation will have seen it. If a Newspaper (or more than one) prints all the questions - knowing that he's been avoiding them - then everyone will know the script. He will either be forced to answer the questions or he will be forced to be publically seen to be avoiding the questions.

He's already seen it because he reads these boards...or at least he gets someone to read for him

Indeed. But what we need now is for 'everyone' to realise that he isn't being up front and honest. If he were then why would he avoid answering simple questions put to him?

If he hasn't got something to hide - why not answer the questions? If he is being honest - why not answer the questions? If he is being up front - why not answer the questions? If he is trying to do something for the good of LFC - why not answer the questions? If he is a fan and cares about he club - why not answer the questions?

Talk about missing the point.  These are not people that we are protesting against. These are people you are attempting to influence.  People you need to win over to your side.  People you are actually asking to do something on your behalf.  His feedback seemed perfectly reasonable to me.

Exactly!  What are people hoping this onslaught of e mails is going to acheive?  Do you want the various journo's to use it as a reason to get at Purslow and Co, or are you using it as a reason to make the journo's totally pissed off with LFC supporters and decide not to do anything at all to help them?

If you want the help and support of these people then you have to get them on your side and you dont do that by making their working day more difficult, or by having them bombarded by unsolicited e-mails.

It is also a shame, in my opinion, that at least one journalist seems to be under the opinion that SOS is involved in this.

SOS is in the process of trying to set up Credit Unions and the possibility of fan investment in the club, something which in the future may well need publicising on a wider level than just their current membership.

There may come a day when we need the support of the very people this action is currently pissing off , hardly the wisest of moves and something which could well be counter-productive.

We don't usually. We're giving them a chance to do their job for a change.

I will not be surprised to see them fail once again. I expect it.

Yes. Becuse the media are a shining example of being decent human beings that give a fuck about anything apart from themselves.

Whether they are dross or not is not the issue.

The initial idea behind sending these emails was to try and use the journalists as a method of getting Purslow to answer a series of questions wasn't it?

So, pissing them off by flooding their inbox with spam is really the ideal way of getting them on your side  and encourage them to help in that isn't it?

I dont think so.

If you want to get at journo's because you dont like their coverage of the club, or because you think they are supporting the owners or whatever, then be honest about it, dont use questions for Purslow as an excuse.

The lack of reporting in regards Christian Purslow and his c*nt antics is absolutely shameful though.

I actiually got a reply from Duncan Wright himself:

Thanks for taking the time to write, and believe me in the fact I do
sympathise with the plight of the common football fan - having grown up in
Portsmouth and being a West Ham fan, I have plenty of personal experience of
those in power at clubs threatening to rip the very heart out of the
community and the loyal fans by their own poor management.

My reply was not intended to suggest I have no empanthy with the situation,
merely to point out that while you are right in that an email from one fan
won't exactly send tremors around the world, blocking up the mail systems
with literally hundreds of emails only serves to cause angst for the
recipients, which is perhaps not the reaction you were intending to get.

I apologised  to your fellow fan who also pointed out it was not an SOS
campaign, though you should be aware very many of the emails we have
received have made clear reference to SOS and the campaigns they have been
running.

I do believe that we have been critical of the Hicks/Gillette regime, as we
have also been with those in charge at Old Trafford, Fratton Park and Upton
Park in the past - we are very much working class football fans who hate the
way the game has been taken away from the supporters as much as you do.

You have to be aware, however, that we have to retain some status as a
newspaper, so getting into technical and highly political situations such as
those at Liverpool ( and those that have been problematic at the
aforementioned clubs) is not really an agenda for this newspaper.

We will, however, attempt to always find out the truth in all situations -
good or bad - and hope to report on them as accurately as possible.

Regards

Duncan

Fat Scouser has been superb with these threads and the various campaigns that he is running.  I am just not convinced about how this one will work.  I also think that for all the other faults of a journo from the Star his reply was fairly reasoned and direct.

If anyone wants the phone number of Odgers Berndtson then it's 0207 529 3050

Met a guy who worked for them about 3 months ago. At the time he claimed that they had been looking for a new CEO for Liverpool.

Also claimed that Purslow was a c*nt (I defended him) and that he was a massive road-block to any sale and against Benitez

At the time I thought the guy was lying, but I've still got his business card on my desk. Guess the prick was right.

Regards

Duncan

Good work there Benn25, nice emails mate - always good to get some sort of response

Even if he is saying that the paper can't really get involved, it may, in reality, mean that they start to focus a bit more on out situation.  And if they don't then whats the worst that can happen - we piss off a few journalists - wow..the ones who have never helped us will carry on not helping and the decent ones who support whats going on will understand our deperation.

My cover letter.

To whom it may concern,

Iam 21 year old supporter of Liverpool Fc, and over the past 3 and bit years have grown tired, depressed and hurt at the way my club has been ran, this hurt has been 10 fold in recent weeks after the sacking of the previous manager Mr Rafa Benitez whilst he was on Holiday with his family, alot has been made of the "The Liverpool Way" in recent years and this certainly wasnt it, to scheme behind a mans back whilst on holiday is cold and malicious, only a man with out a sense of what it means to be a Liverpool Fc fan would do this.
Mr Purslow acted beyond his remit of ACTING chief executive in sacking Mr Benitez, however this is not an isolated incident for Mr Purslow, he has failed on many aspects on which he was brought into do, these failures are highlighted in the Questions i have Attached to in this E-mail and i implore everyone in the media industry and every single Liverpool fan to ask these questions to Mr Purslow and help bring about a show of red strenght that both Shankly and Chairman Mao would be proud of.YNWA!

Regards

Benn that is just some beautiful words Sir.. I applaud you.

very nicely written..

Done,

to all those who think this is not a worthwhile course of action, it takes two mins to copy and paste, at the very best, we get some answers, the plight of the fans gains more momentum, and ultimately the club is sold.

At the very very worst, i get abuse from some reporter i don't know and will never meet, and after all is said and done i can hold my head high and know deep down, that at least i didn't just stand by.. at least I tried.

Surprised at the over-reaction to one hack not liking a few emails arriving in their inbox. Bless him.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't that last mass email attempt bring some positive feedback from other journos who could clearly got what the purpose was - i.e. to drag the nationals into a story they really should be covering in more depth by now - namely the systematic dismantling of top flight football clubs such as Liverpool, Utd, Pompey etc...

Papers like the Star are celebrity obsessed. They only care for transfer title-tattle and snaps of overpaid footballers on the beach with their fit "wag". How long will it be before they take a change of direction and become serious? The answer is never. Which is why email campaigns will forever be limited in their impact....but I just cant criticise anyone prepared to try something and for dragging as many Reds along with them at the same time.

Beats moaning, grumbling and getting depressed.

If you start to do more and think less, you will have no time to be depressed and no time to grumble, and least that's my philosophy anyway.
