Pretty sure its out today. American games usually get released on tuesday i think, maybe someone here can clear it up.

You are correct on both points.

It's getting some ridiculous scores this. After GTA4 and especially with a lot of big hitters this gen, it annoys me to see a game average 10/10 and 98% scores across the board. I know a game can be amazing, but it really takes a special, groundbreaking, once-in-a-generation game to average scores like that; at least IMO. They did it with GTA 4 and look how that turned out. So far, the only game that I've played this gen that I think has deserved the scores it got was Mass Effect 2, but then again I completely avoided any kind of hype that it was getting and wasn't expecting much from it.

Anyway, roll on Friday. I'm not falling for the hype, but I can't wait to play it. It does look amazing.

Somewhat agree and i get where you're coming from. But the precedent has been set with games like GTA and MGS. So if they were to give Red Dead smaller scores people will say it isn't is good as any of them. Whereas this game is much much better than GTA imo.

Anyway, anyone any good at the five finger fillet? I fucking suck. Love the poker though.

I think GTA was still an amazing game, it's just it was the game everyone was waiting for and the hype was incredible. It was the only game I've ever really been excited about since I was kid so I think some people felt a bit disappointed purely because of that. It was still an extremely good game and I really enjoyed it!

The thing is though that there are so many games that are just absurdly good. I mean just GoW III for example. I was slightly dissapointed with it, yet I could without a shadow of a doubt give it a 9,5 (I & II being perfect 10). I agree though that there are games getting too high a score, but that's only because 10 (or 100 depends on who scores) is as high as you can go. The first Uncharted game was a clear example of this, it got what a 9,8 average rating? Then the second game comes and, imo anyway, blows it out of the water. It was at the time clearly a game worthy of a 10 (and arguably still is). The second one got almost entirely 10 in every single review. So when number 3 comes out, no matter how groundbreakingly awesome it is, it can't top the first one in ratings. So in summary I agree. Ratings by numbers don't work anyome. Groundbreaking stuff is just too hard to come by, I mean the only thing left to do in video games is making an Avatar-ish game where you do everything yourself in a virtual reality room. I recommend starting using games as a reference instead. So let's say RDR is San Andreas good, instead of a 9,5 etc. etc.

I think Uncharted 2 fully deserved its scores, as did Batman Arkham Asylum.

I agree. GTA4 is a fantastic game, but I now get the sense that it was more of a vehicle for the technology driving it than anything else. The RAGE engine is by far the most impressive piece of tech being used in games today IMO. It just has so much room to expand on, which I think RDR is doing, and with GTA5, we should see it flexing what it's really capable of. It's one of those things that actually looks as impressive as it feels to play. The Euphoria mixed with Havok really gives a solid and realistic look and feel to objects that other engines out there can't get close to. It still impresses me when I see Niko get thrown from a car at high speed and the way he'll flip and tumble down a road.

Crytek? (Admittedly its only used by 2 or 3 games, but still.)
The Unreal Engine is great when its heavily modified, rather than the lazy shite we saw for a couple of years after Gears of War.
Sony Santa Monica (GoW3) and Naughty Dog (Uncharted) have both created terrific engines, but they seem reluctant to share their tech with other developers unforunately.

The RAGE engine isn;t all that compared to the 4 above in my opinion. Euphoria however, is by far the best physics and reaction tech in the business

Yes, but apparently the difference to the naked eye is negligable. Same as Alan Wake, technically its sub-HD, but you'd have to be some kind of Rain Man to notice it without pixel-counting technology and the like

Im pretty sure it was all bullshit from a forum poster on NeoGaf, and wiki is hardly reliable to be fair. I've also not seen anything in reviews yet to suggest the PS3 version is sub-HD. Either way im not to bothered as you can't tell much of a difference.

It means that it displays at 720p, not that 720p is necessarily the native resolution. For instance, a DVD upscaling to 720p would be displaying at that resolution but natively its lower, and obviously you can tell the difference when compared to Blu-Ray. GTA IV on PS3 is noticeably blurrier than its 360 counterpart (it's native resolution is 640p or thereabouts), but unless it's a real botch job in ways that go beyond the resolution (see: Ghostbusters or Bayonetta PS3) you'll be fine.

See, i'd agree with that. I think GTA4 deserves all the high scores but only because of the add on of the ballad of gay tony. The reason (i think) that a lot of people don't like the game as much as san andreas was because it was far more "gritty and realistic" than the previous one. Unfortunatly for rockstar not many of us wanted that we wanted more rediculous shit like stealing jetpacks from area 51 and then using them to steal alien goo from an army train. Not just go shoot someone in the face. TBOGT took us back a bit and was far, far more enjoyable than the actual GTA4. Helicopter gunships, insane missions with swat tanks, other characters like Yusef who were immensly more entertaining than all the other chars in the origional GTA4. Plus they fucked up a bit with the friends on the phone stuff, which i have to say irritated the shit out of me and they fixed it for the add-ons.

Now Red dead might be getting the massive scores, but again it could deserve it just for something other than the single player. Looks to me like they've gone all out to do the multiplayer on it and if it's done right it'll be the most fun online (i reckon) and it's because of the online stuff that i'm so excited about it and i can honestly say i've never ever been looking forward to any game online before
And when you find yourself along the untrodden path
Remember me with a smile, a drink, a gesture or a laugh
And a toast for the man who loves every hour of every day
And a feast for the friends and faces met along way
Gratitude

Not really spoilerish, but just in case...

Spoiler
I've only played a couple of hours, and apart from the initial story missions, I haven't touched the story, instead doing a few side things, like a bounty, showdown, killing a ton of animals, skinning a horse I rode to death, helping a stranger, etc etc. So far I'm loving it.

I did get the deadeye costume with my pre-order, but like the other costumes you have to complete 6 tasks to unlock it, so not big advantage, unless you specifically go out to get them.

I find myself simply looking around at the scenery.

The only thing I'm having a problem with is the targetting. Sometimes the little white dot is hard to see against the background, although I've not checked if you can change the colour, but maybe it's more realistic like that?;)

The close up gunshots are brilliant ;D

Two questions, though.

The five finger (?) game is always closed in Armadillo, night and day. Is it randomly open?

I saved the treasure hunter, and it said grab the map. The hunter ran off, but I could find no map anywhere near his cart. Any ideas? Too late now, I suppose, I was just wondering where the thing was.

Haven't payed too much attention to this since I loaned my power cable thing for the 360 to a mate a few months back, only occurred to me last night that I have a PS3 upstairs which I only use for watching dvds before nodding off to bed.

Be definitely picking this up in a couple days when it lands in Aus ;D

Ordered mine from Shopto too, they've charged my account, bit annoying they aren't despatching it until tomorrow. Didn't they say they don't charge until despatch?

I'm not too bothered, just annoyed that other places are sending out their copies yet Shopto are holding theirs back.

Is there any trade in deals at Game for this? If so what games?

Think I saw an offer for half price, with 4 possible trade ins. Can't remember what they were for sure, but I think BC2 and Final Fantasy were 2 of them.
