No matter what happens now, even if the mancs end up winning the league, this is a morale-boosting victory and at least sets us up well for next season. Yeah I know it’s a marathon and we need to turn the draws against the lesser opposition into wins etc… but Rafa will be working on that. But we’ve now convincingly beaten Chelsea and the mancs in four consecutive games, home and away, coming from behind twice, ending Chelsea’s unbeaten record, 13 points out of 15 against the big four (whoever they are now) and all… Surely, that must mean something.
Special mentions from today’s game:
Fernando Torres: Commentators can say whatever the fuck they want about united’s defence not being on their game, knackered, whatever crap… It was actually Torres’ constant harrying and flicks and turns that eventually had the better of them and caused Vidic to give up, that’s how you win games.
Steven Gerrard: To step up in those circumstances and so coolly slot it in just says it all about our captain; I actually kissed him back (I kissed a boy and I liked it…)
Fabio Aurelio: Like others said, had Ronaldo in his pocket, and that free kick was sublime.
Dossena: Did the most of the little time he had, a couple of great crosses, he started the move with the cross to Babel that Stevie should have scored. I knew he was going to score today, but thankfully I didn’t write it down.
Sami Hyypia: Eternal. He gives thirty-somethings like me hope in life.
Rafa: Don’t know if anyone else mentioned it here, but this was his 100th victory in charge of LFC, and a very appropriate time, place, and manner to do it. Congrats Rafa, this one will be remembered.
I hope we carry this positive mentality for the rest of the season and see where it leads us.
