Would love to be able to catch him at either Red Rocks or The Gorge later this year.

I really like the new The Brian Jonestown Massacre album.
No, jazz. You fear jazz. You fear the lack of rules, the lack of boundaries. Oh look, it's a fence. But, no, it's soft.

New Ellen Arkbro LP out. I still have to check the spelling of her surname so don't know too much about her other than her previous LP being beautiful.

https://ellenarkbro.bandcamp.com/

Minimalist drone...(few leavers there...). Her last LP, 'For Organ and Brass' was a real highlight last year... I think it's magical. Played out on a particular organ built pre 1500. German. She's Swedish.

Here she's at an organ again (yay!) on side 1 and side 2 she gets out a guitar for the other track.

This is superb.

Pulled from the blurb:

'Shaw describes the world she built for Orange as a garden that she and Attacca Quartet are tending. She used the group’s centuries-old combination of two violins (Amy Schroeder and Keiko Tokunaga), viola (Nathan Schram), and cello (Andrew Yee) to create a rich environment where traces of what has grown there before—left by Haydn, Mozart, Ravel, Bartok, Bach, Monteverdi, and Josquin—provide nourishment for new life.

“Hints of past years’ growth remain in the soil, and so the new growth has been partially shaped by the old,” explains Shaw. “The colors are vivid and familiar, and the shapes of the leaves follow a pattern that you seem to know until you don’t.” She continues, “This album is a celebration of the simple, immediate, unadorned beauty of a natural, everyday, familiar thing.” '

Ah Bill. An album written for me or something. Similar age, recent (ish) child (ren), recent death of mother while holding her hand... all that, plus getting back to an addendum, and something of meaning.. all there. Settling down/house. Dunno. Good to have him back.

Been whirling away in the background often. Sticking bits on when released as you did, but then the full shape comes in later. You start to listen more. Will have a good few airings of this in the coming weeks.

His best album is still Julius Caesar for me, as Smog. It's a go-to. Maybe it's something to do with buying his debut and listening to it about 2 times because it was nigh on unlistenable. But I wanted to hear his next 12" so I got that and kinda got reassured or something. It's along time ago. Peerless musician. Richard Dawson the only one.

It's unbelievable - finally got a full album, bed time, headphones on listen last night after having it on in the background or at work. It's like one big long song with all the recurring lines and songs bleeding into each other and bit when he breaks the 4th wall talking directly to the listener - the lion on the family crest etc.  Love that Watch Me Get Married tune - the orchid in the canyon or the 30 second krauty high hat outro to 747.  I fucking love him - this is so good.  Agree with the Richard Dawson shout

The idea of chucking it out bits at a time was part cheesy, part titillating. But I enjoyed it all. The lyric in Angela about Motel curtains must be one of the best lines this year. Cracked up ;D Great to have him back indeed Djozer.

Tonight 2 years ago my mum died. And I too layed her hands across her. It's a great moment. Many people don't get to have that honour. It's hard... but was also a beautiful thing. Think he gets it spot on.

btw... you can't close the mouth after death. I was really annoyed seeing my dead Dad in hospital that they left the mouth open. I just thought they closed like in the movies. They don't. Sorry... always wanted a reason to say that ;D It led to some tears and some mirth at the time. But yeah... it doesn't close.

Really enjoyed the Aretha Franklin film 'Amazing Grace' today. Must go and see it. Great footage. She's just so majestic. Crowd were fantastic. Conductor was brilliant. What got me throughout the film tho was 'why are the choir sitting down?'.

Irked me throughout. Other than that, they were superb.

I've got one of those "what song was it" thingy. Didn't have shazam at the ready so I don't know what it was. The best description I can give is it sounded quite similar to Hey You by Rocksteady Crew in the chorus as in it was sung "on the beat". It was pop/hiphop and quite happy sounding. I'd wager it was recorded within the last 5 years. It might even be quite famous, I just have no clue what it could be.

2019 is looking great for me ;D

Sleater-Kinney have been in the studio with St. Vincent - can only hope this is a follow-up to their fantastic 2014 comeback, No Cities to Love.

The new Sleater-Kinney album, The Centre Won't Hold, has been annouced for an August 16th release, and the band are in the UK & Europe next February.  The first couple of tracks have emerged during recent weeks.

The new Hot Chip album sounds exactly like Erasure, if Vince Clarke had decided to make the keyboards out of tune - even the track that sounds a lot like Dream Baby Dream. The Holy Ghost! album's a banger though, their best yet and easily my favourite of the year so far.

Lucky man.

For me, they'll never top Faith, Pornography and Disintegration, but I've never seen them do a bad show. I remember them in Liverpool in the early 80s and also taking the roof off the Royal Court in '92.  8)

I'm more into Kaelan Mikla. They are from Iceland and sing in their own language. I believe Robert Smith is also a fan.
