Didn't Houllier want Essien in 2003 but the board refused to sanction a deal and Gerard planned on sending him back out on loan for one season? Am sure i've heard that a few times
It's wonderful, it's marvellous, it's 3-3

Oh and Vidic doesn't count - as our 'second choice' turned out to be an equally world class CB.
World class - probably yes. In the same class as Vidic - no.
As much as it pains me to say it, he's been outstanding for United the last 2 years, and this season he's been the best in the world in his position. He gets through as much work in 90 minutes as two normal defenders.

But as for the best player we've missed out on it has to be Ronaldo, unfortunately. Would have loved to see Alves here though.

Die Parry, die.
It wouldn't be Liverpool if we didn't do it the hard way... ask Gareth Southgate.

We should have paid what Independiente wanted for Aguero.
I disagree. As mouthwatering as he would be in our team now, we didn't have the expenses at the time. We couldn't afford pay almost 20 million for a 17 year old who hadn't played in Europe. We also almost certainly wouldn't have signed Torres either.

If we got some, or any, of those players we would probably have missed out on Torres.

Looking now at Simao and Aguero at At.Madrid I think those 2 are the answers to a lot of the problems we have now.

We need a good winger, and Simao could fill that void we have on the right. Also I know Keane needs more time but Aguero would of been a great fit for 2nd striker right behind Torres and if Torres got hurt Aguero could of played the lone striker which we all know Keane isn't good at.

I dont think Aguero wanted to leave yet, and if he was to leave it would be for more than 20mil.
Rafa also wanted an experienced epl player

Lest it be forgotten, in lieu of the star studded lists of players cited above, Rafa has managed to sign Riera, Alonso, Torres, Mascherano, Babel, Agger, Skertel - all of whom would not have been possible if others had been signed.

But for every great player there has been often more than one not so great player.....Benayoun, kuyt, keane, arbeloa, dossena, voronin, lucas, degen, pennant, bellamy, morientes, josemi, nunez, kromkamp etc.
We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars.

Alves is a huge miss as is Simao and Aguero,

It was Phil Thompson who missed out on Ronaldo, ha was sent to watch him but reported back that he wasnt good enough for LFC, supprised he couldnt sniff out talent with that fuckin Nose.

Were we in for Zidane? Didn`t know that. Villa, Ronaldo, Alves, I seem to remember reading Alex Miller recommended Arjen Robben and Peter Cech as well as Ronaldo and was over ruled by Houllier and Thommo. Couldnt stand Robben at Chelsea but he`s been playing amazing for Madrid recently. Remember the Desailly rumour as well but apparently he wanted to play in London, He would have been class at the time. John Terry always bangs on about what a great example he was to the young lads at Chelsea, with the talent we had at the time we might have won a league in the mid-late 90`s with his experience around them.

Fair enough, they are not shite but overall Arbeloa and Kuyt are average Premiership players. Kuyt was purchased on the basis of 71 goals for Feyenoord in 101 games - I love his effort and commitment, and he has popped up with great moments this season, but ultimately he's neither a real goalscoring striker nor a winger.

Arbeloa - again, had a good season so far, but don't reckon we can tout him as a world-beater.

That would have given us a real chance !

As I recall, Desailly would have shored up the weak part of that Liverpool team - the defense, big loss at the time
Goodbye & thank you Rafa. You've given us more than we ever had a right to expect from you and you stayed loyal and fought for us even when some of our own turned on you. I truly hope that you find somewhere with the support that you deserve & win everything in sight.

Samuel Eto'o. If memory serves me correct he was touting a move to the pool whilst at Mallorca saying it would be his dream to partner owen up front. Not sure if we made any enquiries though!

fuck. If only.

Eto is quite similar to Owen so not sure how that would have worked out.

Yeah, we were. Parry offered 5 million but apparently Real Madrid came in with a slightly better offer.

 ;D

Biggest one we missed out in my opinion would be Cantona. If he was in the red of Liverpool who knows how the 90's would have turned out.

We already have shit in the country, and the game of Liverpool fills life with joy. Thanks
