Where L1 is now..

Sale on London rd..

Is that Jonathon Silver? One of the "boutiques" providing tasteful flares, tank tops, floral shirts and stack heels to the 1970s dedicated follower of fashion. Remember Temple Jensen's? There were a couple of others on Lime Street but the names escape me.

Another angle of the same graffiti here:

Is it the Georgian Quarter? Wide streets and taller buildings than most of Toxteth?

I'm Wool as fuck but I reckon that is Stowell St. with Myrtle St in the background...that's the Eye & Ear Infirmary at the far back and the corner of the Sheltering home for Destitute Children. Round the back of the Phil.

Not sure if JMU still own the art school..i do remember working on the 1st floor there..you can see the window at the back where the room was on that foto, look like there is a conservatory type structure below it on that pic..anyways i walked into the room, big dividing wall/screen which i walked around & into the room full of artists painting a big pair of fleshy mangoes, not the type you consume.
Never thought Toxteth went down as far as that picture.

Edit..your google foto shows that circular bayed room perfect!

About ten years ago I found a box full of pocket street maps from all over Lancashire in a loft in St. Helens . The lady who had just moved in there let me keep the Liverpool one . Will post a few pics of it and if anyone wants a close up of an area let me know . I reckon it’s from around 1917 . Here’s one of the area on the black and white one

Nnnnnope. Clue - unadopted cobbled street, crack in the house front due to locally-well-known subsidence.

Some fascinating stuff on , if you look closely at the up close one of falkner street above you can see an orphanage and a female penitentiary on there . Always thought penitentiary was an American word

I thought it was too. I wonder if it is perhaps linked to the Catholic Church somehow, as looking at the etymology of the word its obviously linked to penance. I wonder if they used the term for prisons that they administered or had a hand in in some way?

Fascinated by the bottom map scan, I used to live on Corinto Street which was an 80s built estate between Windsor St and Park Place, I can see St Patricks which is obviously still there, but there's a couple of other buildings marked on there that aren't, on Chester Street where there is now just a patch of grass.

South Grove, Dingle?

That's where I would have guessed, near where that garage that collapsed a few years ago isn't it.

yeah, noticed that female penitentiary on one of the arle maps (circa 1880's) featured on 'A House Through Time' ...it was on the site of the former Womens Hospital / now student homes - Agnes Jones House....also noticed on the same map both the Blackburne Arms and The Caledonia...signified by a 'PH' on the map....a fact that gave me an inordinate amount of satisfaction seeing as both are thriving pubs now some 130+ years later

Richie and I had a chat and a ferret around here in this thread 18 months ago for more information about the Mill.
Unfortunately it looks like some of the embedded links and pictures I put up in my posts there have since gone, but if you view the post(s) sources and google they might be elsewhere now.
A couple of posts down you'll see that I found a book (link in post) that mentions the mill and says..."In the early 19th century only a handful of roads criss-crossed the area and the villas, congregating along those roads which offered an elevated outlook, stood in what was otherwise an almost entirely rural landscape, with here and there a quarry of red sandstone supplying building materials, and a solitary windmill on Anfield Road (then known as Annfield Lane)."
I don't do polite so fuck yoursalf with your stupid accusations...

Right you fuckwit I will show you why you are talking out of your fat arse...

If your moral compass is Piers Moron then I ask you to think whether someone who oversaw illegal phone hacking and published fake pictures depicting War Crimes is an appropriate person to look up to. In fact, I'd suggest you're a bit of a c*nt.
