Although gerrard's goal against olympiakos was the most crucial one in our 2005 CL campaign, if it wasn't for this goal by Luis Garcia we would have never won the CL imo.
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/NBsraNDmuBU?version=3&amp;amp;hl=en_US" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" class="bbc_link bbc_flash_disabled new_win">http://www.youtube.com/v/NBsraNDmuBU?version=3&amp;amp;hl=en_US</a>
I still remember the odds were completely against us to beat Juventus, they were among the top three teams in europe at that time having been the finalists just two seasons back.
This goal brought in incredible faith and confidence in the team. And what a goal it was, I don't think I've seen a better volley in my life.
Thank you Luis Garcia, you were marvelous and a top top player. Hope you return to our club someday.  :-*
Your intelligence is my common sense.

In an age where every player and his agent will be off as soon as his ambitions (or inflated view of salary) aren’t being met, Luís García was a breath of fresh air.

The first I think we knew of him was when his mate, Spanish Fan, told this site that LG was on an Easy Jet flight to Anfield. I remember Spanish Fan arranging for Luís to answer questions here – done with honesty, humour, humility and obviously no fee.

He will be remembered a lot longer and with greater affection than all the mercenaries who may have earned more or picked up more medals. I’d like to think he got his priorities right. A credit to the game.

He really did come from Barca to bring us joy.
I don't any goal gave me such a moment of pure unadulterated joy as his goal at OT vs Chelsea in '06.
Not only was it the sweetest of volleys, but at that instant I knew they were beaten.

His goal in the semi in '05 was way too early - we had 85 or so minutes to go, what was he trying to do to us??   :P

And I loved his song getting endless airings at Wigan last season.

Enjoy your retirement Luis. Not surprising that his statement had an extra touch of class about it.

Thanks for that header, the volley against Juve and last but not least making maureen's rent-boys cry.

Hopefully his song will get a good airing against Villa.

Even though the CL Semi against Chelsea was one of the best nights of my life. My Luis moment I'll always remember is his goal in the FA Cup Semi against the same opponents at OT, mainly because the bloke in front of my got that excited he punched me right in the chops, hell of a right hook...and hell of a finish from Luis!!!

Loved him. He wasn't 'world class' but he was capable of things only the world class could manage. He had a wit and an imagination up there with Suarez, for me. Was he as good a player? No. But fucking hell, he was genuinely capable of the most unexpected things.

The goal away to Norwich at the back end of the 04-05 season. I think it was Gerrard who knocked a diagonal over the top for him to chase, and he manages to lob it with the deftest touch over the keeper, when he looks for all the world to be off balance.

The headers against Fulham and Anderlecht.

The 'other' Chelsea semi-final goal. That was so audacious, so quick.

Seven years on and I still don't know which was his preferred foot. He took corners with both!

I'll remember Leverkusen, Chelsea (CL & FA Cup), header against Anderlecht, playing on and scoring in the Merseyside derby when he could barely run and we'd already used up our subs, Didi and Warnock had come off injured if I remember correctly, last minute winner against Arsenal on Valentine's Day night and of course the wonder goal against Juventus.

That Chelsea goal in the FA Cup semi final was beautiful - it was sort of like the Juve goal in that he's on the right side of the goal, lets the ball go across him, and unleashes one with the outside of his left foot. As you say, world class stuff.

Brilliant scoring record for us by the end of his Liverpool career, and of course, some key goals in the run up to Cup finals.

Yeah that Norwich lob was great. Remember reading at the time that he used to think why score in routine fashion when the difficult will do! Scored a great goal at home to Charlton that season too.

The FA Cup Semi showed how speed of thought can beat speed of legs. When he broke clear he probably knew he'd be caught if he took it on further but backed himself to beat one of the best keepers in the world with a dipping volley from 25 yards. As you do. :D

Was he afflicted by injuries in his last season? He seemed to fall down the pecking order a little although he still scored a great goal at home to Villa amongst others.

Hahaha. Good point about what is his natural foot from Juan. For some reason I always thought he was right footed but opted to control the ball and shoot most of the time with his left.

Oh well, little does it matter since he was like Nedved on that one. Equally adequate with both feet.

Wish him all the best and thank him for what he offered to us. CL run and not only that, with some memorable goals and moments.
