At the mo the CX500s are 16,99 so not the best peace of business to pay £29 for CX300s imho.

there are 2 versions of the CX300, bog standard and the precision II range....but i havent tried the CX500, i wouldnt trust the cx500's on that link, but the titanium's at £25, those might be worth it.

the precision II's are ace IMO. tempted to just buy the CX500's just to compare them, but then i'd be spending money willynilly. like you i didnt know about the price drop! oh well, summer doesnt last that long here ;)
did you know that 10 x 2 and 11 x 2 have the same answer?

Why wouldn't you trust them- they're being sold direct from Play (well, the black ones are). I ordered them...

My order was declined at PlayTrade so now ordered the black ones straight from Play.com.

Anyway, here's a review from Amazon user:

Quote
These headphones are superb; however, BEWARE of all the fakes out there! There are tons and it is very difficult to tell the difference when looking at the physical package. I saw a couple of posts on here that complain about the loud thump when you hit the cord...if this happens, you have fakes. I bought a pair off of eBay (do not buy these off eBay, most if not all are fake) and had some other people that bought from the same seller contact me and inform me that they were fakes. Even worse, when confronted, the seller admitted they were counterfeit and was eventually caught and banned from eBay. With the fakes, every time I exercised and the cord would bump me it was extremely loud and after this happened a couple of times during my first use, I stopped using them while working out (still not knowing they were fakes at this point). When I discovered they were counterfeit, I contacted Sennheiser to find out if Amazon.com was an authorized seller (I was sure Amazon would only deal with legitimate products, but after getting burned on eBay I wanted to make sure I was getting was I was paying for). Here is the response I got from Sennheiser:

"Amazon.com is indeed a dealer...but do not purchase Sennheiser from their 3rd party marketplace unless from J&R or Tiger Direct as they are also authorized dealers."

I see Crutchfield will be selling 3rd party on Amazon and I also found them on the Sennheiser "locate a dealer" site. Tweeter is also a dealer.

Once I received the legitimate Sennheiser headphones from Amazon and I compared them to the fake copies I got off eBay, the differences were pretty evident. The carry pouch on the fakes is all the same color, but the S design has the same shape as that of the real pair's pouch. The carry pouch with the legitimate pair has a shiny and darker black "S" design than the rest of the pouch (the feel of the pouch is also softer). The length in total for both pairs is the same, but on the fakes, the volume control is slightly higher up on the cord as is the CX500 cord separator. One of the most notable differences is when you thump the cord with the phones in your ear...the fakes will produce a very loud thump (and any swift cord movement can be heard and will be very distracting with lots of movement like cardio exercising). On the real pair of headphones, I can hear the thump in total silence, but while listening to music and working out, it is barely audible if at all. Also, on the fakes, the volume control completely mutes the sound when turned down to minimum. On the real pair, when you slide the volume control to the minimum volume, the sound is still faintly audible. Finally, there is the sound quality. I never would have known had I not had a real pair to compare to, but the sound of the fakes does not even come close to the real pair. The sound on the fakes almost sounds muffled after listening to the real pair. The fakes also have a lot more bass to them. The sound of the real pair is clear, clean, crisp and beautiful. I can hear sounds in the music that I never realized were there before. The real pair tends to draw out so much of the music that it is amazing. I never would have known or realized the difference in the sound had I not gotten fed up knowing I had purchased counterfeit headphones and went out and bought a real pair (I got a majority of my money back on the counterfeit pair).

The best advice I can give is if the deal is too good to be true, it likely is. Check out the Sennheiser website and find a legitimate dealer to buy these headphones from if you truly want a good pair of quality headphones. They are worth every penny!

Got the CX500s... they're ok but not noticably different from the Sony ones I had (ones that came with my mp3 player)- and they were massively better than anything I'd heard before because they uncovered so many new sounds and layers in the music that I didn't know existed!

Hope these ones blow them away as they loosen up a bit.

Got both pairs I ordered through now.

The CX-500's.  Not convinced with these yet.  The first time I tried them then they fitted into the ear nicely and felt comfortable but I thought the sound was dreadful, no real bass at all and really poor definition.  However, I think a lot of that was due to the fact that they were not fitting snugly enough. I've since fitted the bigger ear rubbers and I can get them into a position where they do sound good (although not as good as the Koss "The Plug" ones I have) but the problem is that they keep slowly slipping out of the "sweet spot" in the ear canal and hence losing much of the sound. More playing around with rubbers needed I think.

The PMX-85's.  Superb.  Jaska I owe you one mate - these are precisely what I was looking for.  I've just been out for a pretty vigorous two hour bike ride and these babies were comfortable, didn't make my ears hot and sweaty, didn't block out external sounds, sounded great and most crucially did not need adjusting or re-positioning once in the entire ride.  So, in short, they were exactly what I was looking for.  The twist-to-fit is a bit of a weird concept but once you have mastered it then it is genius.  If you're looking for a pair of headphones for cycling / jogging then I'd definitely recommend these babies.

Nice one with the 85s.

I mostly use my earphones whilst jogging but for some reason went for the CX500s myself because I like the noise isolation. Still haven't got mine but will check the product thoroughly when I get my hands on them because I've read some reports from people who've bought their products from Playtrade wondering whether their earphones are fake or not.

CX500 are only £17.99 from Play themselves at the mo so only a couple of quid more than on Playtrade so not much extra to pay for piece of mind.

Got some in the post to me at the min to replace my CX300.

Funny you should say that about the CX500s... since listening with them more, I think the bass on them is brilliant compared to my Sony ones. In terms of clarity they're both great... they're a bit more comfortable as well, but it takes getting used to I think because of the way they fit into the ear- sometimes it feels a bit weird.

Dunno if they're worth the £18 over my Sonys but they're very good earphones in their own right I reckon.

Also, I bought from Play rather than Playtrade, and they don't seem to be fake- one of the tests I remembered was when you put the volume control on the earphone remote to min you still hear the music at a low volume (it's not completely mute, whereas with the fakes they were tested against, it completely muted).

Anyone think these are good earphones? Also do you reckon they will be real?

Real or not, for that price they can't be any good.

I got my CX500 few days ago and I have to say I think they are brilliant value for money on £17,99. The bass is as good as Koss Spark Plugs' but the overall sound is much better and clearer. Buy them and you won't get disappointed.

17,99 and they're real. Not sure about eBay or Playtrade.

Most of the Sennheiser earphones on eBay are fake. Good fakes, they even sound alright, but fakes nonetheless. I'd stick to Play/Amazon etc for the few quid it's gonna cost you.

eBay is a bastard for good looking fakes now, have to be really really careful.

thing is, they make a noice when you walk, you can hear the pull of the cord on the earphone which sort of ruins the experience....

Went for the cx500s. Came yesterday from play.com. 16.99. Have to say they are fantastic. Sound is so crisp and clear. All external noise is basically muted as well. Money well spent. Thanks guys for reviews on them.

Denon AH-C452's... currently £30 from Johnny Lewis.

http://www.johnlewis.com/230629152/Product.aspx

I Got a pair of these... normally £50-£60 quid in shops  or on online from reputable retailers... even ebay sellers put them up at £40. Top notch for £30!

Detachable extension cord and plastic clip so you can use it comfortably with an inline remote or a hands free kit which is nice.

I own a set of Etymotic ER-6i's which I bought for around £70 after reading positive reviews online:

They broke a couple of weeks before the warranty expired so I sent them off for repair/replacement. In the interim period I bought a pair of Klipsch X1's for about £20:

Now I've got the Etymotics back, I still find myself using the one third of the price Klipsch's - the bass on them is simply superb. I've tried loads of earphones including Sennheisers, Sonys, Shures etc. but these Klipschs really are amazing. You can get them here if you're interested.

Depends if you really want the over the head ones you described above.

If you buy in ear plug type earphones (like the ones I listed above) they will block out most outside noise. I used the Klipsch ones above on a flight to Moscow last week and they were superb - couldn't hear the engines over them.

Basically, I find it difficult to sleep on flights and I want to kill the noise as much as possible.
Use earplugs?

Actually, I had some KOSS earphones that were very much like earplugs (you roll 'em between your fingers before you put them in). They're crap for normal use (the slightest tug on the cable dislodges them and you have to roll and insert again), but might be ideal for what you want. You can't hear shit when you're wearing them.

"You have to admire animals. Hamster spun round in a wheel three times bigger than him and abruptly lands on his back. Then just gets up and carries on as if nothing happened! If that was a human he'd be helicoptered to hospital, off work for 6 months have back issues for 20 years and then start legal proceedings against the wheels owner"

'Cos that's where the cables get stressed. I wish I'd only gone through 3 pairs in 2 years. My old iPhone used to chew them up and spit them out. Only worked with the original Apple ones.

Anyone know where I can get a decent pair of headphones that look nice and don't move about etc for under £70?

I've been using Koss Porta Pro headphones for many years now. The value you get for your money is amazing. For 30€ (~£26) I haven't come a cross many that can match that. The styling is also very nice and think the headphones look very good and are comfortable and don't make your ears hurt like some do.

Depends what you're after. Sennheisers are excellent value for money and quality pieces. I have three different kinds.

If there's one thing I wouldn't buy from eBay, it's earphones. You hear too many people who have had shitty experiences - getting fakes and such like. Avoid eBay I would say.

You can pick a pair of CX300's up on Amazon for under a £10 today.
