Let's give the lad a chance and hope he doesn't join this bunch, we also had better full backs five years ago with Finnan, Warnock and Riise better than the current crop.

Dirk Kuyt Workhorse but lacking quality
Jermaine Pennant Lack of goals and a run in the team has hindered his progress
Yossi Benayoun Flashes of okness, seems lost at the moment
Alvaro Arbeloa Should be a squad player at best
Gabriel Paletta Looked raw when seen
Josemi Very poor player
Mark Gonzalez Took an age to sign, rubbish
Jack Hobbs Going the same way as the likes of Potter etc
Andriy Voronin Shit, cost nothing
Charles Itandje Poor goalie
Fabio Aurelio Had his moments but no great shakes
Jan Kromkamp Steady squad player
Boudewijn Zenden Free transfer and looked it
Mauricio Pellegrino Finished when he signed, now back as coach
Antonio Nunez Poor player now shipped out

Messi and Robinho were above anyone else. Then you had players like Navas, Capel (who looks a great prospect although a ball hog), Cazorla, Maxi Rodriguez, Simao and Riera who would be competing for the other three spots.

Riera played his best ever football during the first half of last season and was called up by Spain where he played some competitive matches coming from the bench.

His link up with Aurelio has been brilliant. So has the link up between Arbeloa and Benayoun.
