That's what I'd thought as well, until you read this article where he states he comes from Merseyside.

http://entertainment.timesonline.co.uk/tol/arts_and_entertainment/film/article3924639.ece

“It was an incredible adventure for a lad from Liverpool to be given a company car and sent off into the big wide world,” he drawls in an accent that has been softened by his adopted home of California.

There's no hippyish omming for this Merseyside lad, however: “You think I meditate? No. I'm looking at Sky Sports, trying to figure out who's going to play in the Liverpool team this week. It's my one thing that I can't let go of. I feel very English. I can never forget my roots, growing up in Liverpool, great city of humour.”

I never thought he was from Liverpool.

Strange that, you think the Echo would be wanking all over him like they do with any famous person who has the most tenuous links to Liverpool

I think I read somewhere his father ran a pub on Merseyside and I believe that's when he moved to Merseyside. But his family are Scousers and in my book that makes him a Scouser. I think he wants to be known as such so that's good eneough for me.

I also know he went to public school in cannock, so that would explain why he wasn't around the area much.
