This old Beeb interview with Eddie Braben waxing lyrical about 1970s Liverpool might interest a few in here.

Good stuff.
I've bookmarked that and will watch it later.

I can't wait to show my Mar, she loved that fella who used sing the light opera, whenever we went to town she'd stand and listen to him 'He's got that sweetness that Mario Lanza had', she'd say. Me Dad reckons he knew him, had a big telly break sorted and turned up pissed.

I remember him - used to sing in Church Street or down by the Playhouse - where the LFC shop is now. He had a massive voice, but I think you're right, he liked a drink and sadly blew his big chance.

He was better than the bugger with the bagpipes, and yes I know he was usually collecting for charity but what a bloody racket!

No problem - that BBC archive site is a real treasure. The other day they linked to footage of Churchill's funeral, which might sound morbid, but was fascinating. Just some of the panoramic shots of 60s London and the whole atmosphere. There's all kinds of interviews on there, if you click 'people'. You could waste hours there. I have.

According to LFC history they both signed professional in January 74.
So, I reckon it is indeed correct.

that Dalglish video is brilliant mate, I was but a lad when he joined us in 77, that was the first year me auld fella started taking me to the match. I'd just stopped crying over the loss of Keegan (I was only ten, ok) when this fella called Kenny turned up. Even now when I look back  everytime he scores a goal is that not the best smile in footy?...still

That video is ace, superb and deserves a wider audience.  Theres loads of young reds out there hanging on his every word/press conference. I think you should post it on the main board and let the kids have an insight to what we had.

Sorry if its been done, Ive been away for a few days and just catching up.

Have just finished the latest issue of Well Red magazine and if you haven't got onto it yet, I have to say it was a brilliant read - there is a thread on here somewhere as Garath and Roy are heavily involved. I am going to get a subscription when I get paid at the end of the month - still trying to get over xmas! Great article by Simon Clancy which goes back to the origins of the name Spion Kop from the Boer war. Like I said, well worth getting hold of....link below.

The bit at 2.08 in that vid is Ray giving it both barrels to all the day trippers taking pictures and videos on their phones. Told them what he thought of them he did. They all joined in after that though. What a fella. Won't half be missed.
