Used to pinch the flags off the golf course to put in the breast pocket of the Crombie. My sister was a maxi dress wearing flower power girl …. Remember once she was all dolled up to go out, walked down the first of the two steps we had and tripped over the dress, serves her right for wearing the wrong shoes, she had a pair of tennis pumps she painted flowers on.
As for shoes I can remember 2 pairs from my younger days, one was a pair of sling-back black platforms that had a red and yellow stripe across the front. Used to wear them all the time thinking I was the bees-knees whenever I went into town on a Saturday.
The 2nd pair was when I was a really kid and a bit of a cow in the way I managed to come by them. My dad’s sister still lived in the family home on Stephenson Street and on the corner there was s shop we knew as Sconeheads and in there was the most gorgeous pair of shoes I’d seen – you have to understand I was only about seven but to me those orangey coloured see-through stilettoes, with elastic across the front and back to keep them on were the best thing since sliced bread, only thing was my Mum couldn’t afford them and there was me doing tantrums outside the shop because I couldn’t have them, along came my Aunty who bought them for me. She was my favourite Aunty after that, even though I got a belt of my Mum for behaving the way I did.
