Rick Springfield - 'Jessie's Girl'

It's used in a classic scene in Boogie Nights.

I remember it well. Didn't it keep Vienna off the top of the Hit Parade, Smashey?

Yes it was a disgrace. Love Vienna it is a top tune.
The 80's was a mixed decade of some cracking stuff and on the other hand there were  the party classics such as Agadoo.

The 80's is always considered a cheesy decade for music, but I loved it. Some great music and fantastic bands.

If we're talking chart classics: Black - Wonderful Life, beautful, haunting song.

So is Baker Street, I think?

Other songs about roads include 'Sunnyside of the Street' and 'Penny Lane', but these aren't from the 1980's.

I have just downloaded Fade to Grey by Visage.

Boss.  8)

I watched Midge Ure in Runcorn the other day and he did an acoustic version of Fade To Gray - along with some Ultravox and some of his other stuff.

He also did acoustic versions of (Among others) - The Man who Sold the World, Vienna, Love's Great Adventure, Dancing With Tears in My Eyes, Lament, If I was, One Day, The Gift, Dear God, Breathe, Cold Cold Heart, You Move Me and Beneath a Speilberg Sky.

Love song - The Cure

I loved the Eighties.

Duran Duran were my thing back then :P

But am getting more and more into other 80's classics that I didn't particularly like back then.

A few lost gems, some of which later resurfaced:

The Church - "Under the Milky Way"; unlike the US, not a hit here in the UK but got played on Trigger Happy and was in Donnie Darko.

And The Lover Speaks' "No More I Love Yous", which was just achingly beautiful; also not a hit but later covered by Annie Lennox and got to no.2.

Another song that failed to hit - "Snobbery and Decay" by Act. The 12" was sublime, ZTT and Trevor Horn and all that. Vocals by Claudia Brücken - who was in Propaganda, whose song "Duel" was equally wonderful - but a hit!

"Typical" by Frazier Chorus. What a good pop album "Sue" was...

And while it was a hit, I thought Aha's "Manhattan Skyline" would have been named an all-time classic had a trendier band written it.

Brilliant Mind by Furniture is always one of my 80's faves.

Great call! Rediscovered this song very recently. Classic!

or New Orders "Blue Monday" or the Bunnymens "The Killing Moon" or Pixies "Debaser" or Siouxsie and the Banshees "Christine" or Joy Divisions "Love Will Tear Us Apart" or The Cures "The Love Cats" (camp as feck :) ) .. for more obscure stuff (well it was then :) ) I'll never forget the first time I heard REMs "Radio Free Europe"

every decade has a large amount of keck music in it ... it's just we only remember the good stuff but for some reason the 80s always seems to be the other way around :) ... I was there and it was pretty good

Gotta put a shout out for Dire Strait's Romeo & Juliet - much maligned band, but that is a gem of a song, as the recent cover by The Killers attests to...
