Getting absolutely battered. They’re sharper all over the pitch that us. Could’ve been more than 3-0 if Jaros hadn’t made a couple of excellent saves.

That third goal was just unlucky to be fair, but we could maybe do with allowing our lads to eat some protein once in a while.

Are they older than us because it doesnt look like a fair fight at all. 2-0
18.8 years to them vs 18.1 years to us the Sofa Score app says.

The balls on Elliott haha. That keeper is more than 2 years older than him and so much bigger.

Hell of a finish

Ability to needle is more important than ability to play at this age, for me.

Tiago Dantas - just turned 19. Don’t think we’ve heard the last of him.*

*edit - see? Just missed his second pen😄

Definitely struggling with the mix of superior athetlicism and their technical quality. Has been a bit of an issue for the u18s as well. We've got a lot of technically good players but not many that have the athleticism to go with it.

Yep - the two most notable examples of players with terrific technique and football intelligence - Cain and Clarkson - have question marks about their lack of athleticism and strength.

And in todays game, you kinda need both. Unless you are just freaklish talented.

Sepp red card.

Dantas substituted. Heck of a player

He went down easily, but there was contact. It’s what they’re taught.

Clarkson red...kicked the player after his shirt was cynically pulled.

The ones who will make it with us, will learn alot from today. Benfica have been a step above in every way...good club

Two red cards and a chastening experience, but an important one.

The ref didn’t make one wrong call technically. But he was poor because he facilitated their shithousery.

Overall though, there was improvement in the second half, and our fitness levels were good. Not the end of the world.

So with Neil Critchley now at Blackpool who's looking after the U23 squad?

LFC fans are supposedly hoping for a return to the club by Xabi Alonso.

What about Carragher?

think punditry pays too well and he rather stay there and get his hands dirty. easiest job just shooting his mouth without any repercussions.

pretty sure edwards, pep(our dutch one) and klopp surely have some contacts on who best to bring the youth squad forward. Someone under the radar and have a good track record of developing youths.

https://theathletic.co.uk/1690171/2020/03/30/how-liverpools-academy-has-caught-up-with-21st-century-britain-to-thrive-again/

Quote
The next one according to those who know at Liverpool’s academy could be James Balagizi, a 16-year-old midfielder who has delivered consistently strong performances this season at under-18 level.

Liverpool were able to spirit Balagizi away from Manchester City five years ago because the player’s parents saw a clear pathway from the youth facility in Kirkby to the first team at Melwood.

Balagizi had arrived in Manchester from DR Congo aged six and within 18 months, he’d been signed by City. One of his earliest games came against Liverpool. A powerful display that day, making other players seem to melt away, made Liverpool think about the limitations of the club’s geography as well as its scouting system.

Watch that video and it’s laughable for people to say Cain isn’t one of the better passers at this club already at his tender age.
