Turning into a good team with some really young U18 players in this team.
"I was pleased also with Peter Crouch. We have been talking to him, before and after his nose operation, to show more confidence with his heading.

"Now it seems to have worked. Lets say that if he has a few games without scoring again, maybe we should arrange to break his nose again."

Why would they commit their future to us the way we treat players? Rodgers just bombs players out of his plans all the time.
Because we offer a great chance of promotion to the first team and get them good loans. Rossiter and Ibe are regulars in the first team squad, before that Flanagan and Sterling, we've had two more get their débuts this season as well. If they think they have a better chance at a higher level then good luck to them.

Woodburn deserves a goal here also. Really good again.

5 in 7 games for him now. Was worried where the goals would come from without Gomes as well!

Think this will prove to be a 'hot streak' for him rather than something we should expect to continue to see. But it's very encouraging to see him getting goals.

I think he's clearly a more defence minded player, but if he can be that and still not shit himself around the opposition goal then that's real next level stuff.

I don't think he can keep that sort of rate up, but he regularly seems to be getting in to good positions to score and I don't think any have been long range strikes that would be hard to repeat. Missed probably his easiest chance today as well.

Yep. Fully deserved. United hit the post twice but we controlled the game from start to finish. Better players, better team.

Only problem here is he will miss potentially the next 4to 5 games now for us as he is off to the u17 world cup. I think kane was called up unlikely that dhanda was.

Trent AA and Kane in, Phillips and Dhanda out. Reece Oxford isn't in the squad either. You can understand why with him being in the West Ham first team set up but England do themselves a disservice by not taking their best players to these tournaments.

Was Woodburn born in England or Wales? Because he's been turning out for the latter more recently.

Wait, they picked Kane over Phillips? That's pretty baffling. I mean Kane's looked alright for us, but Phillips is clearly a better player at this point.

West Ham blocked the call up, apparently actually playing some football would lead to burnout after all the bench warming he's been doing recently...

Was at Wolves-Huddersfield with a mate today. Thought Ojo did well, put a shift in and got a good reception from the home crowd when he came off on about 70 or so. Had a great shot from distance that dipped onto the bar. If he can get a start every week he'll really come on in that side - if they play the same every week then Jackett has got them countering quickly and swarming the midfield and he was a part of that.
If I were a linesman, I would execute defenders who applauded my offsides.

Actually I kinda agree with West Ham in this case. I think for a young player, being involved in the match day squad and training with his first team will likely have a more positive impact on his potential pro career than playing in a youth tournament.

The youth tournament and how England perform there is irrelevant. Therefore the question is "what will benefit Reece-Oxford more long term"?

From a neutral perspective being involved with a squad that has a decent chance of winning the tournament is probably better for him and the FA should be making sure their best players make it. The French FA had Pogba at the u20s despite him being clearly being above that level, the Spanish/German/French, etc. would have their best players at these tournaments.

I have been hugely impressed by Woodburn over the last couple of games. He's having a massive impact on the side which is some achievement for a 15yr old winger playing as a lone striker in the U18s.

Great to see Trent is really pushing on too.

Not sure Woodburn is a winger to be honest. I know Steve Hunter said so in commentary but he was talking about his previous appearances for our U18s.

First time I saw Woodburn play was in the Victory Shield and he played in centre midfield. I watched one of Wales U17 games on youtube and he was again playing centre midfield. All other highlights I've seen has him playing centrally in midfield or behind a striker.

We know Rodgers had balls viz-a-viz young players and if he deemed Kent wasn't ready yet how does Klopp coming change the equation?

So Gerrard seems to be on board the Alexander-Arnold bandwagon as well.

Quote
The 16-year-old has received rave reviews not only from Liverpool and England coaches during a rapid rise up the ranks but also from Steven Gerrard, his boyhood hero, in the former Anfield captain’s new autobiography. Gerrard reveals he asked Pepijn Lijnders, the first-team development coach, to always include Alexander-Arnold and Herbie Kane in his group when taking his ’B’ Licence course, and handed the captain’s armband to the former during a comeback game in Liverpool’s Under-18s side last season. “It was my way of telling Trent that I believed he could make it for Liverpool one day,” Gerrard writes. Alexander-Arnold, born a stone’s throw from Melwood, played right-back in that game but can operate in several positions, including central midfield. He featured in the first team’s pre-season friendly at Swindon Town this summer.

Klopp likes to play at a frantic pace. Kent likes to play at a frantic pace.

Brendan likes to play a slow possession game.

Congratulations to @trentaa98 on signing his first professional contract with #LFC http://lfc.tv/AuGd

Academy youngster Trent Alexander-Arnold has signed his first professional contract with Liverpool Football Club.

The midfielder, who celebrates his 17th birthday today, has put pen to paper on the deal to commit his future to the Reds.

Alexander-Arnold can also operate at right-back and made his senior debut for the club in the position during a pre-season friendly at Swindon Town in August.

The England youth international is also the current captain of Liverpool’s U18s side.
