Decent game for the lads. Unsurprising that the goals they conceded were a bit naive, being a youth side versus men, but they very easily could have won it and scored 5/6. Lewis and jones were the best players on the pitch for me. Jones can still frustrate at times with his decision making but he was still by far the most dangerous attacker. Hit the post, had another well saved and put the ball on a platter for Duncan and Bearne at different times.
Lewis looked sharp in a midfield role. Likely see more of him there as opposed to LB this year as we look to develop Larouci there.

Although they did come very close right at the end.

I'll be shocked if it's anyone other Etoo. Etoo or no-one. Simples.

In fact, I'll do you all a favor and ban myself from the January transfer window forum if we get anyone other than Etoo.

Bobby Duncan seems in a hurry to play first team football.  The Echo are reporting that they are looking for a loan deal for him, preferably abroad but presumably no chance of being a top level league as he is unproven at U23 level let alone senior.  Probably better than hanging around in the U23s but a bit risky at his age.

Itíll leave the U23s really short of attacking options with Glatzel out for some time with his ACL, and Bearne still an U18 player and probably better playing off a striker.  I donít think they can rely on Brewster playing every game for them, and there are no other strikers that I can think of.

Seems a season too early for a loan what with him only joining the U18s last year. Between the U23 league, Checkatrade Trophy, UEFA Youth League, getting some training time at Melwood, and if he's lucky maybe even some minutes in the League Cup and FA Cup, there's a season of development ahead of him if he stays.

Have to say that I thought a few more players would be off (chirivella, ejaria, Shamal George) or out on loan (Curtis Jones, Herbie Kane, Adam Lewis, Christie-Davis).  Bit disappointed theyíre not.  They all need to go or go on loan for their own development.  Obviously Arroyo is going to miss out being injured but he canít play in the UK when he gets fit so thatís tough.  Not sure whatís happened to Liam Coyle.  Assume injured because I donít think heís appeared at all in pre-season.

I think outgoing loan/sales to League 1 and 2 as well as outside the UK can still happen until the end of the month? I think it's just incoming PL and Championship deals which have the early deadline?

Another season in league 1 would be a waste for Kane. Got to be testing himself at a higher level. Hopefully gets a decent forgein loan, bundesliga 2? Instead of waiting until January to try the championship again.

Ejaria has gone to Reading. It's a loan but they have to buy him at the end of the season.

Reading it, it says Klopp is keen for young players to go aboard to play. Think Klopp rates him and wants him to get game time.

Larouci has recently been added to the first team mug shots on the LFC site, along with Hoever who was training with them for the second half of last season anyway.  Probably means heíll be training with them now but dropping down to play for the U23s as and when.  Donít know if that means he has overtaken Lewis or whether Lewis, being a year older, is now better served going out on loan, or simply seeing if he can dominate games at U23 level, and maybe moving back to left mid.

Larouci seems to put himself about a lot, has loads of agility and from the outside- a lot of passion and never-say-die attitude. He is very athletic as well and probably a lot bigger than Lewis. Looks like he is being groomed to deputise for Robbo.
These 3 appear to be the next gen after Trent- Larouci, Hoever and Brewster. Jones is 50/50 but he played well against Oldham.

I dont think they've ever showed the u18 away games regaurly. Can only really remember United and Everton away being shown. Part of it might be clubs not wanting them being televised along with the cost.

2-O up at half time with goals off rebounds by Stewart and Hill.  I see Zak Gilsenan is on the Blackburn bench.  He was supposed to be the next ... (Australian or Irish?) Messi when he came to the Uk from Barcaís academy aged about 13 or 14.  I thought he joined us, but was never heard of again.  These tags at ridiculously young ages quite often donít do the kids any favours

U-23 result was the total opposite to the u-18, beaten 4-0 by Spurs at home, not a brilliant start to season.

Bit shocking for the u23s to get battered 4-0 but I suppose there are some factors at play here.
Even though we lined up with what we would consider a very strong attack, the likes of Brewster, Elliot, Jones and Kent have rarely played together. They all came up from different underage groups so itís no surprise that they lacked chemistry.
Itís also a very young group for u23, and the back line in particular showed that. Itís definitely going to be a transition year for them.

In brighter news, the u18s are off to a flyer. Again, a very fresh and young group (only Cain and Clarkson started from last years youth cup win), but some impressive talent coming through. We have 2 full backs who are youth internationals (Norris and Quansah) who love to get forward. Our new strike partnership of Layton Stewart and James Balagizi will look to exceed the Duncan and Glatzel double act of last season. Stewart was prolific during preseason and they both scored two yesterday in the league opener. Balagizi is tall and athletic, while Stewart has instinctive movement and finishing ability.
The aforementioned midfield partnership of Cain and Clarkson will be our driving force though. Both are solid in the tackle and possess great vision. Cain was a double digit assist man last year in his first season with the group, and he is also a deadly free kick taker.
Going to be exciting to track the development of the new boys this year.

I wouldn't be surprised.  Considering how much of a low priority this game must be, it being so early in the season and with so many key players getting back so late in pre-season, I wouldn't be surprised to see a mostly changed side.  Give everyone early match time and get some of the kids on the bench.

Just seen highlights from U 18s on the LFC site. Stewart looks a good striker, Clarkson still a good passer and Cain got a sweet left peg. There is a schoolboy Balagizi who we have had from City who scored two. Looks skilful, good height and physique.
