I went to this last night (but left at 1-1 in the final match) but agree with some of the comments above. Crowd is about 95% blokes, about 80% in fancy dress and mostly just singing at each other and not really watching the darts.

Wouldn’t rush back but still enjoyed the experience of seeing it. Just makes you glad to be a Liverpool fan at times when you realise how much generic shite gets sung here and whenever you see other football teams play. :D

You're correct mate. I went every year up until a couple of years ago. Went with the same lads, and as the only Liverpool fan. But being genuinely honest I enjoyed it for what it was. We went to the earlier rounds at first, but as bigger darts fans than most, we worked our way up to the quarters, semis and final where more people tend to watch what is on offer on the stage (or rather the massive fuck off tv screens) than on Bananaman downing a pitcher of Fosters in one go. Regardless though, I play darts every week for a pub team with hundreds of others in my local city, so it is nice to be able to see on the pro's doing it on TV and putting us to shame and I want to be able to see the best at the sport make as much money as they can from it and that unfortunately does mean a few/some/large majority bellends depending on which competition and which night you attend. I'm all for historic culture and I enjoy watching and will watch the BDO, but it's clear why they are miles apart for prize money and it's bums on seats.

I've seen Gary Anderson hit a nine darter live from the tables and then on an entirely different night saw him bang in a 180 which resulted in all three darts ending up on the floor (0 scored) at what I believe was the beginning of a final set against Phil Taylor in the final. Among some other crazy comebacks from 2 and 3 sets down. Epic moments.

I genuinely think if you take it for what it is, as an experience and as a fun night (or afternoon) out then it's sound.

sulvojic out. good.

Not for me! I did a draw for our darts team where we drew out the entire 96 players for 10 of us, but seeded it based on ranking, so everyone got a solid player and downwards. About 9-10 each if I recall.

All I have left now after Suljovic's departure is

15.   Jonny Clayton
30.   Benito van de Pas
50.   Brendan Dolan

Not looking good ;D

Edit: In regards to the rest of the tournament, I for one am enjoying the extra games and how it is extended this year. I would like to see Steve West do well as he plays for a friends team, Keegan Brown as for some reason I just think he's sound and I would like to see what de Zwaan can do as he's had a few good tournaments. Beyond that I think Josh Payne and Luke Humphries have played really well as I wasn't aware of them as much before it all kicked off. Round 3 is around the corner and in previous years that would have been Round 2, so still a lot of darts to be played. Really enjoying it.

:wellin :wellin :wellin
;D Now onto the Cobra to double my winnings! No, I will play nice.

Todays line-up. Any possible upsets?

Afternoon Session (1230)
Benito van de Pas v Long (R2)
John Henderson v Clemens (R2)
Steve West v North (R2)
Kyle Anderson v Malicdem (R2)

Evening Session (1900)
Ian White v Petersen (R2)
Jelle Klaasen v Brown (R2)
Gerwyn Price v Aspinall (R2)
Jonny Clayton v Van den Bergh (R2)

North to beat West lol is on my card, Petersen (hopefully) to send boring Ian White packing, Stockport borned but apparently LFC fan Aspinall is in great form (so is Gerwyn Price to be fair) and Clayton to shock Dimitri.

well you can see why that's the afternoon session.

I don't think clayton beating dancing dimitri would be a shock at all, isn't he seeded higher anyway?

hopefully price trips over the oche and KO's himself.

Not the best of lineups Ray you are right. The dance will probably be a hightlight. Man crush on Jelle Klaasen but he is a bit out of form this year, declining badly after a wrist injury, and mentally not right at the moment. But Cobra is back and scores huge at charity events, needs to find his B-game - bellow 200 and the doubles (20 or 18). Agree Clayton seems to be favourite but bookies says otherwise.

79 average for Klaasen tonight too. That'd get you laughed out the building in the BDO, let alone PDC.

Yep. Originally I did the draw at home because we play darts on Thursday and the tournament started then so wanted it done before it all started officially. We had all the names and my girlfriend drew me out first to get Van Gerwen, which suffered a lot of cries of snide cheating in the whats app group, which wasn't the case but fair enough. Especially as I only started the video of her drawing from the pot when she had my bit of paper in her hand! In the end I had all the groups of players and when people paid their fiver they picked out a 'set' of players. I didn't get Van Gerwen ;D

It's quite interesting as most of the top players have gone out. Hard to think much beyond Van Gerwen and Anderson now considering the rest of the field and the longer format soon upon us, but wouldn't put it past Gurney or Smith having a good run. Personally I would like to see a new winner. I didn't watch much in the 90's but I don't think it's too much of a stretch to say that it's much more competitive now than at any other point.

Yes, I saw it on the PDC Twitter feed, there was so many messages saying how happy they were that hes out.
I didn't realise the hate for him ran so high. I only saw him being a twat against Anderson, I guess hes got a long history of it.

Not really.

The crowd like a villain. King, Paul Anderson and now Price.

Price does no different to what MVG did often.

He's a good player but this tournament needs the big players to start showing something. Interest seems way down this year. Expanding the format might've darted everybody out by the time it actually gets good. Not a fan.

That was a quality final set though. Anderson's scoring when he was under the pump was otherworldly.
