Saw Liam Monday and might as well have been 94 or 95 when he played Some Might Say and Cigs and Alc.  His voice sounds great.
The band sounds tighter than some of the videos this past summer. Fast and furious 65 minute set with little down time.

I seen him in Newcastle a fortnight ago.  Yeah, the OASIS classics that they played, the place was fucking rocking.

Is it unfair to suggest Liam just sings other peoples songs well, just found most of his album was co-written

I think even Liam admits that he is a better singer than songwriter.

To this day, he admits that Noel is a great songwriter despite the feud between them.

“It is what it is, mate,” he told the Evening Standard. “I didn’t write Live Forever but as soon as I sang it, I made it my own. I class myself as a rock’n’roll singer who writes the odd tune now and again. And that is it. I’m not going out saying I’m Bob Dylan.”

Holy Mountain is awful. It`s not even filler. Noel should have higher standards than putting dross like that on record. It`s a D-side. I like "It`s a beautiful world" though. And "Fort Knox" is great.

Quotes like this are why I like Liam so much. People slate him as a cocky gobshite but he is not claiming to be anything he isn't. When he made what could be perceived as arrogant comments in the 90s, Oasis were backing it up by being fucking MASSIVE.

Heard him on the radio last night and he did talk about sampling that tune. Did he have to say that because it’s pretty obvious? Does he pay royalties?

Not overly surprised if Liam’s album does sell more. Inevitable that there’s more interest and hype around it given it’s his first solo record.

Oh yeah, its not usually a secret, he's quite upfront about it.

I think the tune is mainly from the Plastic Bertrand tune, and the whistle sample is from here, which also shares musical similarities in the chord progression in places:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ctvn-1J0MZY

It's interesting, as Noel has always been a musical magpie, but now he's doing it more in the modern context, lifting samples and beats rather than just playing someone elses song and changing it slightly on the guitar. ;D

Keep On Reaching's cracking too. As an album, the songs all work well, not too sure if they'll work as well live though, be interesting to see how many make the setlist.

Fort Knox you'd imagine to be walk on music, Holy Mountain's a given, It's A Beautiful World, Keep On Reaching and She Taught Me How To Fly too, after that there's not many.

Love Noel and a lot of his criticism of Liam is fair enough, but how blatent a rip off that is makes a mockery of his criticism of Liam getting other people to write songs for him.

Like I said, I love Noel and Liam too. Oasis were fucking unreal. But neither of them are ever going to come close to those days. Neither of them have anything interesting to say in their music, theyre rich, old and comfortable.

I was quite impressed with Liams effort but I listened to Bring it on Down the other day and it just hit home. That anger and passion is what made oasis particularly in Definitely Maybe. That needed Noel's lyrics and Liam's voice. Naturally that just isnt there any more.

Haven't listened to any Gallagher content since Heathen chemistry. Was a massive fanboy in my teens. For some reason I'm really drawn to this album. Even though I know every song is a rip off and the lyrics are as always laughable. It's a good album. I kind of get a kick out of how much it's twisting massive Oasis fan melons even though it's neither 'weird' or 'revolutionary'. It's just not the Stone Roses, stones, the who or the Beatles for once.

Think Noel`s album is decent enough(except for Holy Mountain which is crap), but not his best solo album. Feel he has 3-4 songs that stand out, but also a lot of filler stuff(the interlude wednesday stuff, complete filler). It`s nice enough, but a little lazy.

Altogether, I feel Liam`s debut album is stronger as a whole.

Noel Gallagher on Liam earlier today on CBS Sunday.

"I wouldn’t have gotten anywhere without him. And he wouldn’t have gotten anywhere without me”

While I think that it is good that both are doing music on their own, and I prefer it if they keep it this way, I just want both brothers to make up and reconcile.

As much as they snipe at each other, my impression is that the falling out doesn't have anything so ingrained that they won't eventually make up. They both know it makes sense and Liam has made it clear he would like to reconcile and comments like that from Noel seem like an olive branch of sorts. I really hope they get back together soon while Liam's voice is absolutely pristine as it is at the moment. In my ideal world, I want them to get back together but with the full line up of their prime of White, Guigsy and Bonehead.

Tony McCarroll played drums on all their best stuff - the first album and B-sides, and the Some Might Say single.

Changing to Alan White was the first sign of their downfall IMO ;D

Don't care if everyone says he was rubbish, he made their best stuff tick and brought personality, White is a bit too session drummer for me - although I will concede McCarroll could never have done the pompous yet brilliant drum break that ushers in the ending of Don't Look Back In Anger.

People saying Liam's voice is as good as ever seriously need to get themselves on to youtube and listen to his Earls Court/Maine Road performances. It does sound better than 2009 Oasis but it's miles, miles off of what it used to be. He doesn't sound great to me at all nowadays but at least it doesn't sound horrible.

As it stands that will never happen after the comments Liam made about Noel regarding the charity gig after the Manchester attacks. Noel is finished with Liam now and at the risk of sounding like a nob I know that for a fact.
