I'm sure it wasn't during the actual memorial - all three looked very serious and as if they were listening intently when I watched it on TV. I'm NOT making excuses at all, but people find emotion hard to deal with and so perhaps they were just breaking the tension a little before the service started. I really couldn't imagine them seriously disrespecting the anniversary or the actual horrific event.

exactly, i have been to a few funerals (obviously not quite the same thing) but before they started there were generally a few jokes going around to try and raise spirits before the the sad ceremonies actually began, its just something people do. I wouldnt worry about it

It was definately before the memorial started. i could see them from where i was sitting and they were all paying attention and respectful throughout. Everyone was milling about and chatting before it began and it wasn't disrespectful. i was most impressed by Pepe during phil hammond's speech as he clapped what was being said and was one of the first of the players to stand up when the kop gave mr hammond a standing ovation.

yeah i suppose your right

I went last year and i dont think i cracked a smile all day.

I didnt think they were being disrespectful, just wondered what the smirks were about thats all.

I wonder actually how many players do actually know ALL about the events on that terrible day? I imagine Stevie & Carra do....but what about the non english players

^ I've heard that they are given DVDs and are told all about the club's history when they sign and especially the tragic events of Hillsborough and how important it remains to the club. I think I read this week that Rafa also takes the new players aside in the days leading up to the memorial and again speaks to them about what happened.

yep. I seem to recall some passage in Stevie's biography where he tries to explain the responsibility he - as a local lad - has got towards the foreigners to sort of teach them our history. I'm sure every player knows exactly what happened in 89 and have heared stories about it.

Thats fucking sickening. Forcing players to learn things, and, telling them they must feel sad on this day, because Liverpool FC said so.

A player should have a choice over things, not be forced in to it.

Telling a player about the history of the club he is now playing for is all about making them aware of what's gone on here beforehand and what makes the club what it is. It's not forcing them into thinking a certain way, it's their choice to make of it what they will - what they do with what they've learnt and how they feel about it all is completely up to them.

what a tit.  Where exactly in the quote you used does it mention that players are forced to feel sad?  It says that players are given dvds about the clubs history and I would say that a major part of this clubs history is Hillsborough wouldnt you?  Twat.

It is though. Every player there is more or less forced to go to the memorial for the fear of being cast away by the club and fans. Some people dont feel attached to the situation. So what? I can gurantee if one player wasnt there, they would be forced out of the club by the fans. Its sick.

There are a lot of dick heads, going off here anyway, that force people to care about things they have no feelings about, or at least no more or less to other accidents that happened in other parts of the world.

didn't Torres say how much he enjoyed learning about Liverpool's history? What a great club it is and it's great history? Can't believe you think anyone was forced to do anything.

In ONE!!!

I bet, from the players that know the details of what went on that day.......not one wouldn't have felt sad about it.

All the players talk about that liverpool fans, the special relationship between the team/players/staff & fans.....why would they not feel sad?

Its a huge part of our history....
