I know it's a big if, however, if they've had any sense at the club they will have had teams working on the transport/parking issues for a 70,000 capacity stadium for the last 9 months.  If they have then the planning application should be able to go in very quickly, if not then there's obviously going to be a delay.

Interesting news ^^
I'm not an expert on planning but to throw an idea out there, could there be an agreement with the council to pay for all this to be looked into and start the ball rolling with this rail line in order to bypass putting in an extra planning app straight away? There was talk of starting the build and putting in an application for the extra 11,000 seats as the stadium was being built. I think that's what could be happening. The stadium is of identical same footbprint and shape as one we already have permission for, so it would make sense to just come to some longterm agreement with the council to make a slight amendment to the existing approved plan rather than to delay the whole process another 4-6 months and waste council time on all the planning app meetings. I'm sure the powers that be will be getting sick of all this aswell. It's in everyone's best intrests that we don't have to go through another long approval phase.

Right - here's the ultimate solution for parking....

It's close, there's plenty of room. It's a bit shitty but - You could get a couple of hundred extra cars in there - Here's a bitter parking for ya!
I can see my house on there.

Three sites on list for new Liverpool FC train station

Feb 22 2008 by David Bartlett, Liverpool Daily Post

TRANSPORT experts are looking at three potential sites for a new railway station to serve Liverpool FC’s proposed new stadium on Stanley Park.

Representatives from the club, Merseytravel and Liverpool City Council specially commissioned a train to travel along the Bootle Branch Line to review the three sites, all in close proximity to the proposed new 71,000-seater stadium.

The three sites are Utting Avenue, near The Clarence pub, Stanley Park Avenue, near Anfield Cemetery, and Pinehurst Avenue, near its junction with Townsend Lane/Avenue (near Clubmoor Playing Fields).

Appraisals and costings will now take place on each site, but the Daily Post understands the Utting Avenue site is the front runner.

The line is currently only used by freight traffic and local ward councillor Steve Radford last night said he used the reconnaissance mission to argue a station should also be opened at Tuebrook market in West Derby Road.

Liverpool FC currently has planning permission for a 60,000 seater stadium, but will need a new planning application with an environmental and transport plan for 71,000 capacity.

A new station could form a key part of the new transport plan.

Chairman of Merseytravel Cllr Mark Dowd said: “It was a very useful visit and we have a number of options to consider.

“Public transport is a necessity with a football stadium of this size. It could also open up a number of other improvements to public transport for the people of north Liverpool.

“It’s obviously very early stages but we are looking at the possibility of building a modern, integrated and accessible station as we have done many times before.”

Rick Parry, Liverpool FC chief executive, said: “Given the Bootle branch line is already in place, we have long felt it could offer an exciting public transport solution to the match day problems.

“But it is vital to explore how it can contribute to the regeneration of north Liverpool. Getting so many people to see it at first hand was a very important first step.”

Neil Scales, chief executive and director general of Merseytravel, added: “We will explore every option in detail.

“This will be key for the club and stadium, but it is also about looking at how we can better support north Liverpool and its regeneration.”

Bootle line may open for Liverpool FC stadium

Feb 22 2008 by Vicki Kellaway, Liverpool Echo

PLANS to reopen an old railway line to ferry fans to Liverpool FC’s proposed new stadium have taken a step forward.

Reds’ top brass and transport chiefs travelled on the old Bootle branch line to see where a new Anfield station could be built.

Residents have called for the line, now used only for freight, to be refurbished to give supporters a transport option if a new ground is built on Stanley Park.

Anfield presently holds about 45,000 fans, but the Reds hope its replacement could eventually host as many as 70,000, sparking fears of traffic congestion nearby.

Rick Parry, Liverpool’s chief executive, and Merseytravel officials have confirmed reopening the branch line was a possibility.

They took a one-off journey along the line, leaving from Lime Street, on Wednesday.

Mr Parry said: “It is vital to explore how it could contribute to north Liverpool’s regeneration.

“Getting so many people to see it first hand was an important first step.”

Merseytravel chief executive Neil Scales said every option needed to be explored in detail, including the project’s funding.

He said: “We are serious about making this work. This will be key for the club, but it is also about how we can better support north Liverpool.”

Tuebrook’s Liberal councillor Steve Radford, who has campaigned for the branch line to be reopened, said: “This could regenerate the entire area.

“It would remove the need to travel by car, making north Liverpool much more attractive to professionals who need trains to commute.”

Possible locations for a new Anfield station include Utting Avenue, near The Clarence pub; Townsend Lane, near Pinehurst Avenue; and close to Anfield cemetery, near the junction of Cherry Avenue and Stanley Park Avenue.

Cllr Radford said: “I think most people thought The Clarence pub option was most favourable.

“If I was a betting man, that is the one I think they would choose.”

He said it would be “disappointing” if the passenger line was only opened for football matches or if just one new station was built.

He added: “We have already considered other locations, including behind Tuebrook market, which would be ideal with the bus and potential tram links on West Derby Road.”

This is more like it ppl. Things starting to move now. Looks to me as if there has been at least some kind of verbal agreement on an amendment to the approved HKS plans to increase it to 71,000 seats with the council.

on Merseytravel's page.

Three possible sites are being considered for a new railway station serving Liverpool Football Club’s new Stanley Park stadium.

A joint agency team boarded a specially commissioned train to travel along the Bootle Branch Line to review the three sites, all in close proximity to the proposed new 70,000-seater stadium.

Three sites are being considered and will now undergo rigorous options appraisals and costings before selecting a preferred option.

They are:
· Utting Avenue – in the vicinity of The Clarence pub
· Stanley Park Avenue – near to Anfield Cemetery
· Pinehurst Avenue – near its junction with Townsend Lane/Avenue (near Clubmoor Playing Fields).

Officers from the Liverpool Football Club, Merseytravel, Liverpool City Council, train operating companies and developers took part in the visit along the line, which is currently used by freight traffic.

Councillor Mark Dowd, Chair of Merseytravel, said: “It was a very useful visit and we have a number of options to consider.

“Public transport is a necessity with a football stadium of this size; it could also open up a number of other improvements to public transport for the people of North Liverpool. It’s obviously very early stages but we are looking at the possibility of building a modern, integrated and accessible station as we have done many times before. It would be an advantage to the city, the stadium and the fans. It would be good to show the outside of the world what we can do.”

Rick Parry, Liverpool FC Chief Executive said: “Given the Bootle branch line is already in place, we have long felt it could offer an exciting public transport solution to the match day problems. But it is vital to explore how it can contribute to the regeneration of North Liverpool. Getting so many people to see it at first hand was a very important first step."

Neil Scales, Chief Executive and Director General of Merseytravel added: “We will explore every option in detail, including funding, but we are serious about making this work. This will be key for the club and stadium, but it is also about looking at how we can better support North Liverpool and its regeneration.”

Colin Hilton, Chief Executive of Liverpool City Council, said: “We are very positive about what we can do by working together, and it is excellent that all of the strategic investors involved have come to the table early to explore the options.”

Parry the scruffy bastard with no tie on. Sounds promising but I won't believe it until I see it.
