Log in, request an upgrade code, receive it and use it, select simplicity £20 with unlimited data bolt on, go through check out process, order is pending & within a couple of hours it'll be confirmed.
You then follow the instructions to change your settings that I linked to above.
All done, easy, peasey.

If you get "Simplicity for iPhone" rather than the regular Simplicity, you get free Data & WiFi

600 mins/1200 text for £20

I rang up to get this

No it doesn't, didn't even know that there was a simplicity for iPhone tariff. May change next month if for some reason I find myself missing visual voicemail and wifi

You'd think it would be on the website.  Guess there's a cost to them for unlimited wi/fi though, as it's not all their infrastructure.

I opted for the "easy" option of doing it online, losing wi/fi for 4-5 months until the new phone comes out is not an issue for me, don't think I've used it other than at home anyway.

Im pretty sure the free wifi is only for the likes of The Cloud so you can still use it at other places like starbucks? And obviously your own/friends wifis

Yup, it's the "system" of wi/fi spots that O2 has put together, mostly "cloud" locations.

I changed to the normal Simplicity last night, but on reading this thread I have just rung up and changed to the iPhone variant, no hassle. I guess they're getting £20 off you either way, so they don't give a fuck. I like the visual voicemail, so didn't want to sacrifice it.

I think the truth of it is that they don';t want to encourage people onto it, as there will be plenty of dumbassses who will carry on paying £35 a month.

can you connect other devices to the wifi?

is it a case that you can see networks but not connect or it just doesn't pick up any networks?

BTOpenzone is included as well - which means it will work at Starbucks

BTOpenzone actually have pretty decent coverage around town - they have access points in quite a few phoneboxes

Sorry mate, am I understanding this right?

I can change my £35 a month contract to the £20 a month simplicity deal (even though I'm still under contract for another 5 or 6 months)?

Once you are 9 months into your contract you can downgrade by one step (ie £40 to £35 for instance, or whateveer the tarrifs are).

You can't move to the Simplicity until your contract us up for renewal.
