Interesting comments from Cahill on SS1
« on: December 4, 2006, 05:03:29 pm »
Was wathcing the build up to the Blue Noses game yesterday, and was listening to Cahill talking about going to the Emirates Stadium.  He said that new stadiums like that all look the same now, the away fans were as loud as the home, and that at Highbury the fans were alot closer.

He made some good points, one's that we will no doubt have to deal with in the near future.

If one end is a full one tier then this for sure will make the stadium look different.  But why does it have to be Oval shaped?

Look at Old Trafford, San Siro, the Dortmund Stadia - all 60,000+ Seaters but not in the Reebok / Emirates Stadium old.

Should we look back, to look forward in the design ???

Is it all too late ???

most new stadiums are an oval type shape to try and offer the best sightlines to all seats.

As for away fans being as loud as home fans, it happens in all stadiums whether new or old.

I just hope our new stadium doesnt have the fans too far away from the pitch (eg like olyimpic tracks round the side)

Atmosphere will be great, particularly with the roof (think of Millenium stadium when we get to singin! )

There's no athletics track around the pitch in the new stadium.
These are my own opinions. They are not meant or intended as a criticism of anyone else's opinion just because they are different but if you can't see past that, then tough shit!

He's absolutely right, the plans look so generic and unadventurous

Atmosphere 'should' be one of the most important things in building the new stadium, instead we've probably wound up with a bigger Reebok

Yeah, and there's no track around the pitch at Highbury, or at one side of Upton Park, but fans are still miles from the pitch...

Emirates:

Anfield

There's definitely a feeling of fours stands in the new Anfield rather than the continuous sweep of the Emirates.  The roof is much more enclosed which should help the acoustics.

All i can say is remember istanbul, was no problem with noise there and look how far we were away, NWL at half time will always be remembered until the day i die, If we put enough people in (which we will) and there is a will, then there will be a NOISE and VERY LOAD NOISE......

Noise is about fans not how the stadium is, Lazio/Roma has a cracking atmosphere and has an athletics track right round it with fans behind both goals 10s of metres from the pitch. Rivers Monumental is an open bowl with stands nowhere near the pitch yet probably has the best atmosphere in the World.

I think that Rick Parry once said, that they have very much planned the new stadium with acoustic in mind. Maybe thats why the roof looks the way it does, but still strange that two of the stands are so far away from the pitch...!!!
