Great story from Italy
« on: July 11, 2005, 12:43:14 pm »
Last week i was on a conference in Germany and met some Italian boys from Milan who also work for our company.  As they were all Inter Milan fans they were ecstatic that I was a Liverpool supporter! ;D

Apparantly when the Italian cup was played the week after the Champs league final - Inter vs Roma....the San Siro was absolutely rammed with Inter fans compared to Roma fans.  In respect to Liverpool's win over AC all of the Inter fans had come dressed in red t-shirts or tops, whatever they could find that was red and my friends Guissepe and Maurizio said that the entire San Siro was totally red!  They were singing YNWA for the entire match and were singing Steven Gerrards name when, at the end, they won and were presented with the cup by Burlusconi!!!

HOW funny is that!?  Apologies if this had been reported before but Liverpool fans have found new friends at Internazionale  ;)  If anybody has any picture of the San Siro that day it would be wicked! ???

Add to that the fact that AS Roma hate Liverpool beyond belief.
"Grazie Liverpool" is written everywhere in Roma by Lazio fans. Both sets of whom are wankers.

All true. I live here, go to Inter games and was at the final of the Coppa Italia (though I didn't hear any Gerrard chanting/singing). Our cup win seemed to mean more to them than their own cup win, even though it was their first domestic trophy in 16 years !!!!...

It felt great.

Great LFC banner in the Curva Nord (attached) during the cup presentation.

I particularly like the angel's wings on Ole' Big Ears.

In Italy, for pretty much all clubs' supporters, it's as much about your rivals losing as it is your own team winning. All rather childish really (but then again, so are a lot of people here in many ways -  except for their refined cusine, wine and sportscars perhaps)

Outrageous! Inter's history pisses all over shitty spurs!

13 league titles to spurs 2, 2 european cups, 3 uefa cups, world class players in every position, regular participants in the later stages of the champions league, 60,000 plus crowds every week. Top 3 finishes in the league every season...

Forza Inter!

Actually Inter seem to have a bigger wanker contingent than anybody at present.  They've clashed with AC fans, Roma fans and even Verona fans this year.  When Ronaldo switched to Madrid they smashed up a car that they believed to be carrying him.  In 2001 it was with Ipswich.  It's AC that have the best fans of the big Italian clubs IMO.  Zero arrests reported by the police in Istanbul.  I'd pretty much guarantee that that wouldn't have been the case if the final had gone the same way against Inter.

I love this piss-take picture.

The Milanistas slogan reads "we live your dreams" (in other words intended to mean "Your dreams are our reality" like the LFC flag in Istanbul) , but the Interistas have exploited the double meaning of the Italian phrase which also translates as "We make your dreams come true" and have added .."for Inter, Juve & Roma supporters"

Also love the "Comeback-opoly" board game on that link above.

Our supporters' team are playing Inter supporters in Leeds on Saturday & on their site I've already seen posts that they'd be happy to lose to us (though in reality I expect them to give us a helluva game, they are ex-finalists in the 64-team tournament).

They'd booked their flights to Leeds, but after Istanbul they changed them to Liverpool so they can do the stadium tour next Monday and say "thanks".

{When we exchange penants before Kick off  I'm going to give them a final DVD & a programme.
Then our next match is against the Mancs supporters  - they'll have seen me give the stuff to the Interistas & I'm going to make a joke of trying to give the Manc captain the same !]

True Inter have some nutcases, but thats true at all italian clubs even AC Milan, most battles are reserved for Italian games as football over there is like civil war because of the loose unity between the regions. Alot of frustration and battles from older times are fought during football matches. Italian football can be compared to the state of english hooliganism in the 80s which we learnt from, just hope that it does'nt take a major tragedy in Italy to change things over there.

Most teams over there love Liverpool for Heysel for some sick reason and sing songs praising liverpool fans, Juve are despised by everyone. And its not true that Inter had clashes with AC Milan fans this season because the ultras groups are in a cease fire at the moment.

That wasn't a fan on fan clash, just a few tens of white-hot flares on the pitch.

You guys are right, how could I leave out their women. They are beautiful for the most part, but they often talk the legs off you, mostly about astrology, the meaning of life and love, strongly held beliefs that all old wives tales are true and other such crap. You have to do at a lot of talking/listening nefore you get "romantically involved" with them (5 dinners is about right) and it's impossible to take a short cut and get them drunk !

As much as I see the funny side I actually quite took to the AC Milan fans while I was in Turkey and think a bit of a bond was formed between the sets of fans, despite their disappointment.  For that reason I will always cheer them on when they aren't playing against us.

Kinell, you managed to find one of them out there ?

I found a Turk in a knocked off Shevchenko shirt two days after the game, who refused to believe how easy a chance the big Ukranian had missed (not to mention the pen), but it's not really the same.

Their waving flags just made me laugh.  Wow, you can wave a flag and wear a T-shirt at the same time......

I stayed in Sultanahmet Aidan which is where the Milan fans were based and to be honest we outdid them there as well.

But there was one particular afternoon, day of the mach actually when there was a swell of fans from both sides outside one of the taverna's and it was all good.

Don't care what they did inside the ground, that was irrelevant to me.
