From failing one golden generation to attempting to do the same with another. Portugal without Ronaldo and the players they have coming through should be a force…. Not now.
We already have shit in the country, and the game of Liverpool fills life with joy. Thanks

They should have waited until the end of the season and got Mourinho in, I bet he'd love to get the chance. He's much better suited than Martinez tactically and we'd only have to hear his moaning for a few weeks every couple of years. A win-win for everyone.

Thought he'd have waited for the Everton gig. They loved him there. And he's still on their payroll.

Is what I keep asking any time his name gets linked with anything.

I always think of his and Hodgson Hodgson's agents as being some of the best there are at what they do.

How they got their clients the gigs they have is really incredible!

I don't get the failing upwards bit.

Martinez is taking National team jobs that pay a pittance compared to top jobs in the top leagues. His career path is similar to a player going to the MLS in his prime because he can't cut it anymore.

Some people are great at their job but do terribly in job interviews. Others know how to talk the talk. I guess Martinez is the latter.

He's making 5m pounds a year. Good pittance.

Quite. It’s a very cushy number with much less day to day work, and much more job security (longer shelf life at least) than a top level club manager gig.

I mean 6 years flattering to deceive with Belgium and he’ll get at least 4 with Portugal you’d think.

It amazes me very time a failure in management keeps getting high paid jobs.

Good luck to him i guess. I mean we’d all love the chance to do what he’s doing. Any idiot can fail.

Has he actually done anything of note since he won the FA Cup 10 years ago...? We all know he did nothing at Everton, bizarrely fell into the Belgium squad. Six years there, comfortably the best Belgium players ever, and when its come to the crunch he's done nothing. And now....Portugal! International football really is an odd game, so many nations who seem happy to hire managers who have shown they've not got that cutting edge to actually win titles.
If he's being asked to head the ball too frequently - which isn't exactly his specialty - it could affect his ear and cause an infection. Especially if the ball hits him on the ear directly.

Finally a FA that looks almost as bad as England’s in their recruiting.

As others have said his agent needs a pay rise, unbelievable how he gets another top job.

International managers seem to get judged to absurd standards it seems the same thing happens with Southgate, I don’t think finishing 3rd in a World Cup is  failure at all, yes Belgium had a golden generation but so did the France team that beat them.

You have to say that's magnificent work by Bobby.  Keep your 10-games-a-year job with a side guaranteed to qualify and probably get through the group stages of major tournaments, not having to keep Ronaldo happy anymore, and a perfect excuse to visit nice places like Lisbon and the Algarve every month or two. All for the princely sum of €5m per year.

'What's that Bobby? You're going to scout Portimonense yet again this month? Yes, I suppose it is fortunate that it's nice and warm there in March. OK, I'll book a week in a 5 star hotel in Albufeira again for you. Yes, with sea views, of course'.
