1. Paul Walsh - Young player of the year and really promising forward.

2. John Barnes - Well, he was just John Barnes.

3. Glen Hysen - Beat United to his signature, thought he was going to be a Hansen replacement.

Tony Hately , bit of a journeyman but thought he'd be amazing for us but didnt suit our style , think we paid a club record fee at the time

Sir Kenny , never thought anyone would fill Keegans boots but fuck me Kenny surpassed KK in every department , what a man !

Andy Carrol , what a fucking disappointment , I thought he'd be the new messiah , haha how wrong i was on that ( panic ) signing

This is a tough one. I remember 1987 signing Aldo, Barnes, Beardsley and Houghton, that was some year. I was only 10, super excited, they were my heros.

Top 3:

Fowler return (just because he is my all time favorite)
Barnes
Beardsley

oooh, just seen someone pick King Kenny return as manager, that was fucking ace too.

Kewell and Torres, easily.

Babbel also for me. At the time we had a lot of promising players looking to make the step up into winners of major trophies, but hadn't done it yet. To sign someone in his prime with his record - multiple german league winner, champions league experience, euro96 with germany etc - recognised as among the best defenders on the planet felt like a huge coup.

Was excellent as well before his illness and falling out.

Babbel is a good shout. I know Houllier had started his rebuild but he signed a pre contract in January 2000 I think when we were still well off United and Arsenal. I did wonder why someone who’d won so much would choose us but he was a childhood fan I think? Really good signing.

Actually another from that era that thought would take us to another level was Christian Ziege. Thought he’d add an extra attacking dimension (we were making do with Traore or Carragher at left back) and I thought he was more or less guaranteed to be a success. Think he was injured when he signed and just never really got going with us. Plus the tapping up charge too. Just didn’t end up worth the hassle.

Kewell and Collymore were 2 players I thought were going to be the final piece in our jigsaw.  Either side of those 2 it would probably be Barnes, Torres, and re-signing Ian Rush from Juventus.

 1. Barnes. Took it to a new level. Watch his highlights if you are too young to remember.
 2. Beardsley. Amazing team player and once or twice a season on the same level as Messi.
 3. Alonso. I was a bit meh at first. But one of my colleagues was a semi-pro at the time and put me straight about what a talent he was, turned out to be true. Incredible that he graced us with his presence.

I know this isn’t the point but Klopp is probably genuinely my #1 signing.

Some unspoken rules about being a LFC supporter during the summer signings season:
- never buy anyone on the basis of their World Cup performances
- every goal keeper we sign will be heralded as the last piece of the jigsaw. Never true unless your name is Allison.
- don’t believe the gossip columns: we’d have signed half of western Europe if it was accurate.
- never sign anyone billed as the new Barnes, Giggs, Gerard, Rush, Messi or Ronaldo. They’ll peak when they are 17 and sink to the lower leagues like a stone.

Finally, I saw a few pages back that someone had somehow put Michael Owen in their top 3. They need to gem up a bit. 😃😃😃😃😃😃

Hard to pick just 3. Easier for me to pick the ones who I was least excited about (one of which was Milner………oh boy was I wrong).

My top 3 would be:

Torres
VVD
Alisson

Next would be Keita, Dalglish, Sturridge, Souness.

Tony Hateley - 28 goals in 56 games. He didn’t fit our style and replaced by the record buy (for a teenager) Alun Evans who flattered to deceive.

And Carroll was not only a panic signing but Newcastle must have thought we were dealing in dollars not pounds.

Summer 2014 i was still riding off that title challenge high which made me think Rodgers was some sort of wizard who could do no wrong, so i was very excited about the club going forward under him.

1) Lazar Markovic

2) Dejan Lovren - specially because of how much it got publicised that he was specifically picked by Rodgers as his 'defensive colossus'

3) Adam Lallana

God coming home. Absolute number 1. It's a 'remember where you were' moment for me! I was driving home from work and my dad called me out of the blue (which he never does, we always have an arranged time once a week!) . Initially i was panicking thinking, ooh shit whats happened? But he was calling me to tell me Robbie had re-signed!!

1. God returning home. I remember being distraught when I heard he was being shipped out to Leeds.

2. Collymore. Honestly thought he would bring us home the title.

3. Torres. Those first 18-months were so much fun. Still my favourite song and bouncing in the Kop and all over Europe to it! He was the last player I got attached to - I was disgusted when he went to CFC!

1. Luis Suarez (i was crying for us to sign him after the world cup)
2. Virgil Van Dijk (never seen a more obvious cliche missing jigsaw piece)
3. Lazar Markovic (in my defence, youtube made him look like a messi regen and I wanted to see hope after Suarez)

Salah. Saw what he was doing in Italy and thought he would perfect compliment to Mane on the other side.

Hamann. Looked great for Newcastle when he was there, thought we were getting that player. Still really good for us though

Benteke. Thought he would be our Drogba, holding up ball, linking up play and getting goals. I love bully boy strikers

Last? Come on mate... There's no way you are not attached to either Suarez / Salah?

p/s: Personally, I was attached to Emre Can and Lucas Leiva.  ;D  ;D  Love them.

On the Kewell shouts does anyone else remember that video he recorded to announce which club he’d sign for which he then wasn’t able to release due to the loyalty bonus payment issue that cropped up at the 11th hour.

Like an early version of that Greizmann video. ;D
