Anybody watch Mark Kidel' documentary, 'Mystery Dance', on Elvis Costello this weekend? A difficult man to cover in 90 minutes, no doubt, but this was enjoyable and I'd recommend it to fans and newcomers alike:

Terrific documentary. Elvis has done a few in depth interviews of late, which is unusual for him. Not that he's deliberately taciturn (he hosted his own chatshow series with Elton John in the US), just that he has been generally quite a private man.
I've loved his music since I was 8 in '77. Armed Forces, Imperial Bedroom, Blood and Chocolate and particularly King of America were some of my favourite albums through the 80's. I've mentioned elsewhere that I saw him at Liverpool Royal Court in '89 a week or so after Hillsborough and it was an emotional night. Strangely I didn't see him live again until this summer, twice - at the Royal Albert Hall and then Hyde Park. His gigs were high on both hits and energy, amazing performances with the band retaining that new wave beat fervour they had back in the 70's.
He's a top red, identifies Liverpool as his home despite spending a lot of his formative years around London. And that clip of his dad singing If I Had a Hammer, jerking around in his suit and glasses. Like father like son, peas in a pod.
