Mauricio Pellegrino

ValenciaInEnglish ‏ @VCFInEnglish
Mauricio Pellegrino has now officially been named Valencia's manager.

Quote
The president, Manuel Llorente has reported, after the act of renewal of contract with the 'main sponsor' JinkoSolar, the Club has reached an agreement with Mauricio Pellegrino as coach of Valencia CF for the next two seasons. " This afternoon the Board of Directors has ratified the agreement last Friday with Mauricio Pellegrino to be the first team the next two seasons " , said the president.

Thats an interesting move I must say. Fair play to Valencia for giving him a chance, he is clearly still well respected over there. Good luck Mauricio.

Very pleased for him, I hope he does well. Having played under Bielsa, van Gaal and Benitez, as well as working as a coach under Rafa, he's certainly been able to learn from some of the best.

I got the Lucas thing wrong. Will be right on Henderson though. Play him RM, play him CM - Not good enough and never will be.

It's an impressive set of managers to learn from - I am sure he has picked up some good habits from them, plus they will be a good support network for advice if he needs it.

Valencia appoint Pellegrino

Valencia have announced the appointment of Mauricio Pellegrino as their new coach.

Former Valencia defender Pellegrino, 40, has agreed a two-year deal and will take charge from next season. He had previously worked as assistant manager to Rafael Benitez at Liverpool and Inter Milan.

Club president Manuel Llorente told the club's official website: "The board have signed and ratified the agreement reached this past Friday with Mauricio Pellegrini, who will be the first-team manager for the next two seasons."

A Valencia spokesman had earlier revealed an approach had been made for Andre Villas-Boas but that the Portuguese had accepted a job elsewhere.

Pellegrino replaces Unai Emery, who will leave the club when his contract expires this summer after four years in charge.

Valencia have secured third place in La Liga this season for the third time in succession and also reached the Copa del Rey and Europa League semi-finals.

Given how highly Rafa thought of him and him being a Valencia old boy it's easy to see that being a success. Time will tell though.

Good on him. Given the coaches he's worked with and under, he should've come up with a clear plan to incorporate the best of them as much as he can into this Valencia team. He has a good squad to play with and I think with a couple of additions, they can solidify their position as the best among the rest.

He's got all the credentials to do well but managing Valencia is a difficult job. How do you push on that bit extra to get beyond being 3rd every year to really compete with the giants of Real and Barca. In fact you'll more likely be looking over your shoulder at the rise of Malaga. Still I hope he does well. I like Valencia as a city and as a club.
