"Suffered the physical result of a bite". How isn't that saying he's bit him? The wording's a bit poor like but he's still admitting it. Even if it doesn't count for much now.

Er...he used to play for Barcelona.  It's not beyond the realms of possibility that he still has 1 or 2 contacts who could tell him that!

A little tenuous wouldn't you say?

Perhaps I shouldn't be so critical, but I have spent some days trying to analyse my reactions to Luis' bite, and this apology does little to change my feeling that he doesn't really get it.

In my view, he should have included an apology specially for Liverpool - the club and fans that supported him, rehabilitated him, and have enabled him to become a fabulous player so much in demand. He let us all down, and Brendan Rodgers most of all. LFC is going to suffer most from his conduct, not Uruguay.

The tone of the apology leaves a bad taste. (Pun not intended, but apposite).

Nah, still inconclusive. Could have been old scars, mosquite bites, Italians are masters of the dark arts etc...

He owes something to the people who lose out due to this: his country, club, Chiellini. The last time he let us down he more then made up for it with his performances. Beyond that, the rest of the 'football family' can get ...... - he made his own way up, most would have cracked along the way if they faced his path. He doesn't need to pander to anyone. Frankly, to me, very few people, including our fans, are genuinely concerned about his well being or mental health. Hell I'm not.

He can do whatever he wants, you get caught though, be wise about it. You've got to know when it's out of your hands.

"Suffered the physical result of a bite in a collision"

Might just be the translation, but that sounds like it was still an accident. Which is preposterous

It's time LFC put out a statement on what's happening.

He's admitting he bit him ok but not that it was intentional.

Even the construction of the statement avoids an admission of intent. Normally if you say I bit him, i apologise and it won't happen again it is clear that you are admitting you meant it. Bullet points on the other hand, by their nature, remove any association between the individual statements. Hes actually going out of his way not to admit he meant it.

An apology was ALWAYS going to come out, whether Barca wanted one or not.

I dare say a few days at home with family has allowed him to reflect. I'm not criticising Uruguay for supporting him but they didn't help with what I assume was a siege-like "deny all, the world is against you" stance. A word or two with the people who love him in an environment that isn't a pressure cooker will have done him the world of good.

I get the feeling he's already gone. It's sad, really, because the image of him heartbroken after we lost that league will stay with me, now. At the time I thought "next year, mate." But I get the feeling than any wins we have will be without him.

I just hope Barca give him the help he needs. For his sake.

You can't bite someone accidentally I don't think. The wording's a bit funny, but he's admitting he did it. Anything other than that is just reading too much into it. For some reason "I bit him" doesn't fit too well when you're making a formal statement.

It's really not mate. You can bite somebody accidentally in the same way as you can bite your own tounge or lip accidentally. It's highly highly unlikely but it could happen.

I'm not arsed myself whether he apologises or not to be honest but that statement is akin to the standard " I apologise if any offence was caused" line that people use to avoid admitting intent whilst expressing regret at the same time.
