Cheers SOS....Good Early Evening Had With Joey in the Big House
« on: November 27, 2008, 12:00:34 am »
Had a cracking hour or so this evening in the presence of a true legend.....Joey Jones.

I've been one of SOS's biggest critics but even though it was a little disorganised,  that hour is what it is all about.

Down to earth....talking about the fans, etc.....magic memories.

Fans with fans.

And I won a signed pic  ;D

Great stories and happy memories.

YNWA Joey  :wave

A wound that will not heal, a heart that cannot feel.
Hoping that the horror will recede,
Hoping that tomorrow we'll all be freed.........JUSTICE.

Why do I associate myself with piss heads Pheeny/Beni/Piggy/etc......?

By the topic name I assumed you had spent the evening with Joey Barton in jail, but this makes alot more sense.

My dad met him a couple of times, had nothing but good things to say

What a great fella. Bought suits off me in me shop lifting days and gave me tickets to many a game. Rock on Joey

Would somebody mind filling in some of us younger fans about Joey Jones?

I've seen the "Joey Eats Frogs Legs" banners in older videos, but don't know much else...

He lived the dream. Much like Aldo, Phil Thompson and the likes.

He was/still is a die hard kopite..

One of the most passionate reds to have ever put the shirt on..

Much appreciated...

It might have seemed like a dumb request on my part, but stats and a a short bio online only convey so much. Glad to hear he's still a Red at heart.

My favourite pic of me as a boy is getting presented with a trophy from Joey in 1977. 2 of the lads in that 5-a-side team are no longer with us and we were all reds....magical times.

In later years I played with his brother Frankie in a local side - nowhere near as good but a nice fella all the same. Joey is a true legend.

Didn't Frankie also play for Wrexham?

Elsewhere on this day in LFC history, Joey Jones emerged as an unlikely match winner as Liverpool struggled to a narrow win over lowly Bristol City back in 1976.

The Reds would go on to enjoy one the finest seasons in their history but, for large parts of the clash with the Robins, they toiled without reward.

After a frustrating first period, Bob Paisley's men grabbed their first on the stroke of half-time courtesy of Kevin Keegan.

And they made sure of the points 11 minutes after the restart when Jones popped up with his second goal of the season to claim a 2-1 victory.

not the most skillful player, but certainly one of the most passionate and proudest players to wear the shirt. when he came on to the pitch with his fist/arm raised
and all of us too raising our arms back to him and the ground singing "joey joey joey joey jones"
i read somewhere when he was a kid he used to cycle from home to anfield to watch the match.not sure if true or urban myth.

just found this.alot of you youngsters wont recognise many of them.us, though of a certain age were spoiled...............

I doubt he'd cycle from Llandudno to Anfield.

All time greatest red for passion for the jersey

When Joey ran after a winger you had the feeling he would put him in the paddock, Kop or Kemlyn before he'd let them get past him or get a cross in.

Not the most gifted but unbeatable for passion and sheer love of the that famous red jersey
Met him a few times and he's as down to earth as they come...love ya Joey lad
