Ipod help!!
« on: April 24, 2006, 10:51:03 pm »
I spent ages updating my ipod with about 12 films 6000-ish songs and album art etc, and I was as happy as Larry!

I then deleted most of the loaded info from my pc as it was obviously using up all my memory.
I since re connected my ipod and its deleted all the files i removed from my pc :no :butt :'( and im back down to about 1800 songs!

How the hell do I set it to auto update all new songs in my itunes library but not remove the files that I have since removed from my pc.

Please help I felt like smashing it when I realised what had happened! :sad

If only you had searched RAWK first...   :butt

I had the same question a week or two back on here- you have to choose to manually update, to avoid precisely the SNAFU you've just encountered.

:lmao

Schoolboy error. Have fun re-importing all yer tunes. Just a simple check box in iTunes preferences will stop the auto update but I'd always suggest keeping your tunes on your pc as well in case your iPod develops a fault.

Yes, but if your albums are in folders of their own it's  piece of piss. I've added 12Gig in the last hour or two, with full art.

The auto update default setting is shit, though.

I never understand the peoples hatred of itunes.

I think it is a brilliant piece of software, just take your time to get used to the software learn the options and you won't have a problem.

It is a million times better than media player 10.2.2.1.3.4.5.6.7.8 or whatever sub version they are on now

Precisely. Itunes is superb, it's all so user-friendly. But you need to actually take your time to learn how to use software.
Who is this man, where is he from?

He fools them all, there is no doubt
This is the man this song's about,
And like the Kop, you'll hear me shout
"Give it to Heighway."

Its a male trait not to read the instruction manual, and the Ipod I think, was designed to exploit this trait to the absolute maximum.

Have fun puttin all that gear back on.

Could have been much worse la.....some people have put all the stuff on the Ipod, deleted the stuff from the PC, and then to unhook the Ipod from the PC they have simply took the USB out, without disconnecting in Itunes.....such a simple thing has formatted the Ipod completely!

The little things eh?....

i'd advise you to make backups of all your music on blank cd's, save them as mp3s,wavs or aacs, then if it happens again all your music is pre-ripped on the cd's

Yeah that's what I was thinking, is there a way you can DL all your ipod data onto blank DVDs?

I did that with my old iriver but you could explore that like a standard folder, when you explore the ipod it's all peculiar and formatted into it's own wonderful way.

That's cos you're not really supposed to be able to take stuff off an iPod, easier to just burn from the PC or make a direct disk backup of the iPods contents, obviously in bits, maybe do it as like a hdd back up.
