I reckon Southampton would be a good fit for Coates on loan. He's a whole lot better than Yoshida IMO and Yoshida will be starting for them against us.

Thank god , a loan move to a team in this league is perfect for us to see if he can prove he can cut it in this league.

Look forward to seeing how it pans out as when we signed him I thought he was the dogs bollocks during the Copa America ,but he definitely looked off the pace during that first season with us.

Sunderland fans reckon he'll be back up to Brown and O'Shea. Their thinking seems to be that he mustn't be much good, because our defence is weak, and we're willing to let him go.

I think they'll be pleasantly surprised.

Poyet is Uruguayan so undoubtedly that's helped with this one.

He's definitely going to get a chance for them, even if he's not in the starting 11 immediately. Fully expect him to take it.

O Shea and Brown are the only other cbs in their squad. Well Vergini too, but he has looked much better at RB and struggled last season when deployed at CB. Couple that with Brown's injury record and he'll get good playing time no matter what.
Fuck that though, think he will be first choice for them, especially the way Poyet likes to pass it out of the back

Indeed. This is just about perfect for Coates. I assume Toure leaves us next season and we'll have Coates or Ilori replacing him. The big man had a nice preseason, hope he builds on it under Poyet who will likely take good care of his countryman.

Will be livid if we don't played Ilori and Sakho for the first team. Along with Coates that makes 3 very high sought after defenders we have ruined/failed to develop. Thats kind of disgraceful

Problem with spending big money on inexperienced players. Defenders in particular. They're only going to get there if they play games and they're only going to play games if they're good enough. I've seen one or two match compilations of Ilori out on loan that would suggest he's nowhere near. Not that he doesn't have some good qualities like, but risk absolutely bombing him out if he puts in a shocker in a game he's meant to be trying to fight for his place.

To be fair to Ilori he only seems to have missed games during his two loans due to injury, which isn't great, but shows he must having something about him for two clubs to start him.

Undoubtedly. I'd just prefer he gets his shockers out the way at other clubs where he will be playing every week.
