How much more did we not want to pay for Cristiano Ronaldo, by the way?

Totally different scenarios cant really compare. When we declined to sign Ronaldo did we had a 35mil young striker playing in his position?

When we buy Henderson for a big fee were overpaying and when we refuse to go past our valuation for Wickham were lacking ambition. People are never satisfied. I'm sure we have people at the club who know much better than ourselves what is the right price to pay for our targets.

That is if we play with 1 striker. But considering we play with 2 strikers most of the times(even 3 sometimes) 4th striker will play a significant role for us.

Ok then mate.

What should we do?

What should we do with Ngog?

And if want to sell Ngog what sort of forward do we bring in and at what price range.

Ngoo and Morgan are not ready to be our 4th forward.

We simply didn't want him enough, if we did they we would have signed him. its that simple, it isn't because we dragged our feet, if we was serious i doubt himself and his agent would have agreed to a deal knowing that a massive club like Liverpool are in the wings.

Is it a massive missed opportunity? of course not , we already have two very young players in Suarez  answer Carroll who still have another 5/7 years in them, plus have young strikers in the reserves that are talented and scoring a lot of goals.

We could also end up buying a more established striker in a different mould to Carroll to give us options. Someone with different strenghts and abilities. Then we would have Suarez, Carroll and the new striker with Kuyt able to play as a forward if needed and Morgan + Ngoo waiting in the wings.

I agree with you're saying here. It's not like we're desperate to get another striker in.

With no European football, there won't be a lot of opportunities to get into the starting eleven, and our youngsters can fill in when we need an extra striker or two.

Buy a forward with a maturity and experience and also relatively cheap(Ex.Hernandez) probably from European(French?) market. We need a forward who can make an impact now not 3-4 years down the line.Kuyt can cover for Carroll and Suarez for some extent but we need someone with different attributes who can make immediate impact particularly if we are spending 8-9mil on him.

FFS Bojan went for lower than Wickham. That is absolute madness for a striker we dont need now.

P.S

I am not saying we should find a bargain as good as Hernandez but like a striker similar to Hernandez with similar attributes.

Wouldn't mind a Mexican striker :)
Would sacrifice Fordy in a sacred Mayan ritual to have him (Jurgen Klopp) as the next Liverpool manager

It pretty much says exactly that in the article, 'having taken the view that the club should not pay over the odds for a player who remains unproven at the highest level.'

It also says "Missing out on Wickham is a substantial blow to Dalglish" which sort of doesn't add up as the article also states we weren't willing to match Sunderland's bid. Which means it can't be that much of a blow as we obviously didn't think it was worth paying it.

See I disagree cause we still have ngog here. Until we sell ngog I see no point in buying a forward.

Think if Sunderland had signed ngog then we would of matched sunderlands offer.

I don't really agree. But neither one of us know for sure.

The club was under a different ownership then and my understanding is that we're a lot more clear about what we can pay and everyone is pulling in the same direction. Besides which that's not the point - it was the inconsistency in the article which I was pointing out, not whether Wickham is worth it or not.

If Arsenal and us didn't go in for him with a bid we obviously didn't rate him as highly as Sunderland.

I still think that he has went to the Premier League far too early, at the age of 18.

He should have stayed at Ipswich for another couple of seasons and developed properly.

I don't think it was that he went too early, it's that pretty much everything conspired against him when he did move. He was tearing it up his last 6 months at Ipswich. He had a slowish start at Sunderland, but he was mostly a substitute. I think he scored on his first league start and then got injured about 5 minutes into his 2nd one. ... By the time he returned from injury the manager who had signed him had been replaced by known jumpy, tracksuited charlatan Martin O'Neill who, as is his way, decided from the off he didn't fancy him and, like with so many other players, ostracized him. This teenage lad went from being their most exciting signing of the summer to injury prone flop without barely any time on the pitch. ... Few shit times on loan, throw in some general disinterest.

He's only just turned 21 and seems to have finally started turning it back around again. He did really well at Sheffield Wednesday this season. Not so much at Leeds, but they're fucking mental. He's got 11 in 22 starts this year though (or 11 in 17 starts at Sunderland and Sheffield Wednesday). Hope he turns it around. He looked like a very good prospect just before he left Ipswich.. and no one deserve the simultaneous bad luck of severe injuries and Martin O'Neill.

This thread is a stark reminder of how far we've come so quickly.

Discussions about how Ngog fits into our striking picture, whether Morgan is ready to be our fourth choice ... yikes.  I'd almost forgotten how comprehensively shite we were.

TBF he has looked quite good over the last month or so. I think he has shown more footballing ability than Carroll so far and he is only 21.

It's a shame that he has left for the Premier League so early, at the age of 18. Had he stayed at Ipswich for another couple of seasons, he would have developed into a very good striker by now. Still, he is pretty young, and might have a solid career in the Premier League.
