Pace has dipped unfortunately. Zenit in no rush and we are struggling to maintain that high tempo. We need to have one final big push!!

86' Great passing out of back from the defenders and midfielders but given away in the attacking third. Zenit try to counter but now they've given it away, but decent closing down allows them to regain possession as Pepe had no choice but to clear it long.

88' Lucas to Carra now, out wide and Raheem will dribble inwards from the right, out for a throw in, and the defender is able to shield it out for a goal kick. The defender stays down to waste time but Luis did step on the player's bum. Cheeky and accidental from the striker.

since hendo was taken off imo we've lost that high intensity in the middle

90+1 Good move down right, Sterling tries to get behind, tackled and out for a corner. Pepe wants to go forward, stopped I think. Another corner, and this time Pepe IS forward, Gerrard to cross it, almost gets to it, the ball is cleared and now Pepe is way forward, the defender gets to it and clears.

Zenit throw in and this might be coming to an end.

great performance and on another night we'd have pushed on for me big turning point (apart from hulks goal ) was the double subs killed all momentum oh well onwards and upwards

I also think the substitutions killed the momentum. I thought Assaidi was a good move but would have left Henderson on as we really missed his workrate and was definately one of our best players bar a jittery opening few minutes. I can't help but feel, again, that Shelvey just won't make it here and doesn't suit our style of play at all. The gulf between him and Henderson is growing with every game. Hard to believe he was ahead of him in the pecking order just a few months back.

We did enough barring the mistake at the back, can't call Carra though. Had a good game and is a legend.

The first leg let us down though. Suarez had a shocker in Russia but showed once again he is a class above. The team will hopefully learn from it and put it into action in Europe next season.
