Lee Hazlewood Appreciation Thread
« on: March 26, 2015, 09:51:56 pm »
Hi guys and girls,

Had 6 Music on last week I think and Wyndham Wallace was on who has written a book about Lee that is out in May. He was basically his Manager for the last few years of his life.

Was an amazing interview and whilst I know a few songs, I never discovered him until now.

Been listening to loads of stuff on Youtube and all sounds incredible.

Any fans?
No, jazz. You fear jazz. You fear the lack of rules, the lack of boundaries. Oh look, it's a fence. But, no, it's soft.

'We All Make The Flowers Grow' is one of my favourite tunes of all time.

There we go!

Good choice.

I was a relative latecomer to Hazlewood - think I got obsessed with Duane Eddy at some point, then I read that Hazlewood produced him and they worked on that great reverb sound together and then investigated his stuff.

Love & Other Crimes is my favourite album of his...I've only got two though ;D

Bet there's a cracking best of out there somewhere although I've always found his discography weirdly scattered if you know what I mean. Some artists it's all laid out neatly, they did this, then this...but he had loads of producing gigs and collaborations going on so it's hard to tell for me.

looked at the double CD comp Strung Out On Something New: The Reprise Recordings a while back  but a bit pricey!

I think Light in the Attic released most of his reissues.  They always do a great job so I wouldn't begrudge them.  I think the Reprise stuff has been issued previously though, in the late 90's on his own LHI label. Discogs should have it for 15 - 20 quid or so. (Plus p&p)

Also I love Not So Very Important People. His little stories at the start of each song. Get a real sense of his humour.

That is special

Although there is a standard edition that is meant to be equally as immense as the other 3 discs on the deluxe are only MP3s. 17 albums on that label that Lee was involved in.
