Sami in his Prime or Carra in his Prime? who do you choose?

It'd be Sami but then that's not a slight on Carra. Just that Sami was absolutely superb

Here's news to brighten up our moods a little: Sami appointed as interim first team coach at Leverkusen!

The former Liverpool defender Sami Hyypia has taken on a role as joint interim coach of Bayer Leverkusen after the Bundesliga club sacked Robin Dutt on Sunday.

Dutt departed after less than a season in charge following Leverkusen's 2-0 home defeat by Freiburg on Saturday, a result that has left them battling to stay in contention for a European qualification spot.

Hyypia, who completed his playing days at Leverkusen last season, and the under-19 coach Sascha Lewandowski were named as interim coaches at last season's runners-up.

The duo, with Hyypia acting as "team chief" and Lewandowski as the coach, will remain in charge "at least" until the end of the current campaign, the club said in a statement.

"I know the team," said Hyypia. "I believe in this team. We want to show an insecure team … the way to get back to success."

Leverkusen sit in sixth place in the Bundesliga ahead of Werder Bremen and Wolfsburg on goal difference.

Dutt had taken over last year following a successful stint at Freiburg but he struggled at Leverkusen, who were thrashed 10-2 on aggregate by Barcelona in the Champions League last 16 last month and are also out of the German Cup.

"We just had to act and show a sign that would give our season target of playing internationally a new push," said the club's owner, Wolfgang Holzhaeuser.

That was a meteoric rise, but that should no be surprising given the man's character and team-mindedness. I suppose we can forget about him returning to Anfield as a coach now in the future.

Of course it is Hyppia - no contest as Hyppia was the greatest defender of the Houllier-Benitez-Hodgson-Dalglish periods so far.

Congrats Sami, what a way to enter retirement from your playing days.

If they don't make him permanent then he's always welcome back here.

4 wins and 2 draws from 6 games! That's a good record. Hope he gets the permanent job, he deserves it.
