I don't think that's true.  You only have to look at the change in policy between Brown/Darling and Osborne to see that.  Unless you don't think the austerity policies had much effect on the economy?

I'm sure they had some effect. But big investment plans may well have been held in check by the markets that would react in a similar way to which they did with Truss.

It is a centre right country. Look at child care costs, the two tier school system, means testing for child benefit, privatisation of water and rail. Anglo-American capitalism based around loosely regulated financial services.

Yes.  That is what our leaders and governments have adopted.  However, is it what the majority want?  I don't think so.  Vested interests control and lobby governments, to dictate policy.

For example, I think most of the country would want to renationalise our water companies and our transport.

I like him, he's obviously been brilliant this season and he's a good age. Yeah, I guess we don't know the true nature of his release clause, as we don't know the details on Mo Kudus' clause either.

The way we're going to use Mo Salah going forward is quite important here but obviously it would be great if we retain Mo for at least one more season, and add more pace and ability to the forward line as well.

West Ham might be open to selling Kudos now they aren't getting anything for the betting cheat.

Liverpool FC Forum / Re: Arne Slot confirmed

My biggest worry is the Slot is just a front man for a team to tow the party line with little say in players bought and sold etc. Part of me suspects this shift contributed to Klopp leaving (see the 'coach' comment during the farewell which could be seen as a dig).

I'm sorry but this is just nonsense considering the shift has come because of Klopp leaving and after it was announced that he was going.

Reform will do more damage to the Tories this election

the point is that the Tory vote will be squeezed between Reform and the Lib Dems in critical areas; the same way the Labour vote was chopped off at the knees by the SDP-Liberal Alliance in 1983.

Plus, Reform won't win any seats, no matter how high the poll, whereas the Lib Dems will.

I'm not sure I can ever forgive the Lib Dems for their part in the past 14 years, but in this election they can at least begin making amends.

Sorry if this has been posted before. Guess who's most affected by the wrong VAR decisions. Btw the problem is the people operating the system not the system itself. We need independent personal with no connection to PGMOL. At the moment, it's one of the PGMOL stooges leading the VAR room.

Interesting read. But the fact that Doku's kung fu kick on Mac Allister is not classified as a clear and obvious error is fucking bonkers.

Slots biggest challenge / change for me is getting a consistent starting 11, yes it will have players dip in and out but having that solid core who understand eachother and the tactics and the backup players being similar. It can't't be easy if we're going from Nunez to Gakpo as the 9, or Trent and his skillset as the inverted fullback to the likes of Gomez to Elliot deputising for Salah etc.

We need to keep the players fit, having so many players disappear for a month at incredibly frequent number meant we were never settled.

News and Current Affairs / Re: UAPs over America: real or balloons??

I think we will be getting some form of disclosure on UAP.

That is: some acknowledgement that a non-human intelligence has been operating around us, for some time.

I have no doubts about this.

This thread and the general conversation about the topic tends to be a kind of binary fight: doubters vs believers (to put in Kloppian terms). Grifters vs Insiders. Conspiracy theorists vs. part-time super-rationalists. Tired of that fight, it is futile.

The guy featured in the clip below, Karl Nell, has one of the most impressive CVs I have ever seen. Has two Masters degrees and was asked by the US military to reorganise the entire US Army. He is four bosses away from President Biden.

Before people jump in: his CV and his current position is why he is NOT Mr Disclosure, he cannot say, "Here is the material, here is where the program is, I have some UAP segments on my lawn, come over guys!"

This is what he did say though:

Before the inevitable and frequent complaints, there is 0% chance that Karl Nell, (this person: https://www.linkedin.com/in/karl-nell-98203510/) is saying the things he has said, on 3 occasions now, based on hearsay and rumours other people have told him.

The 'circular rumours from believers with the Pentagon' line is from Doctor Sean Kirkpatrick of AARO and it is itself a conspiracy theory.

Olise's release clause (assuming the number floated on here is accurate) is very reasonable. The only 'value' unknown with him is robustness. If he's injured for half the season you're obviously getting a lot less for your money.

I'm always surprised by the supposed correlation between height and mobility. The average height for an olympic sprinter is 185cm. Bolt is 195cm. Darwin is 187cm.

Fabinho is a very smart player and had top level positional awareness. He also had a bit of snide and was quite willing to take a yellow for the team. His partnership with Thiago was really wonderful.

I'm really interested to see how Slot's midfield will shape up. We have some really great young midfielders, but we're probably a year or two away from the majority hitting their peak.

Taller people are generally faster in terms of reaching a top speed and because of a longer stride length. However, shorter people are more likely to have more explosive pace/acceleration which tends to be more important in football.

Bolt as the quickest person to ever live had a major weakness with his starts. Also if you look at the fastest 60-metre guys they tend to be the shorter sprinters.

The NFL is another example - running backs are shorter as they need to accelerate quickly, whereas the wide receivers who run greater distances are taller.
