Andriy Voronin - the (not so) divine ponytail
« on: November 23, 2020, 08:30:12 am »
Looked through this forum and unsurprisingly we haven't got a thread for this outspoken Ukrainian with the blonde hair and ponytail.

Rafa clearly fancied him when he brought him here in 2007 on a free from Bayer Leverkusen and if memory serves me correctly he was on fire during the pre-season, scoring for fun.
He didn't start off too shabby, scored against Toulouse in the CL, then a late goal against Sunderland then banged one in during the 6-0 massacre of Derby (that was an outstanding game where I thought Ryan Babel was going to be the next coming of Jesus!).

He got a bad ankle injury however and ended up getting loaned out to Hertha Berlin before moving on.

I think he'll be remembered more for his outspoken views and ludicrous dress sense (I seem to think his missus had a leopard print tracksuit), he was critical of Liverpool as a city, ""Compared with Germany, England is far behind in terms of comfort and culture. Five out of the seven houses near us are occupied by footballers. Steven Gerrard was burgled recently so a police patrol car comes into our area fairly often. We hear police sirens all the time. Leverkusen by contrast was so much quieter".

When his child was ill he took them to Alder Hey and he was less than impressed then, "when our child had a skin allergy, we waited hours for the doctor to see him. When we finally got to see a doctor, he said he didn't know how to treat children and to try rubbing in this ointment. That was it. I was stunned! As a result my wife had to go back to Odessa with him and took a full set of tests there."

Interestingly, he was the striker at Mainz the same time Klopp moved from player to manager, I wonder what Klopp made of him?

Today, Andrey Voronin is assistant manager of Dynamo Moscow - and he's lost the ponytail.
"I ask that you believe in this team and believe that together we can achieve great things."

Besides the game he had against Tottenham at home, he is easily one of the worst strikers we've ever had.

Wasn't it Voronin that did that finger-to-the-lips-shush-thing celebration to his OWN supporters after getting a bit of stick

He's deffo one of the best Ukrainian players we've had.

Unfortunately he never got his chance to shine as he was with us when Torres was scoring for fun.

Things could have been so different...

Leading paediatric hospital in the country employs physicians who “don’t know how to treat children” 🙄

I’m not the NHS’ biggest advocate, but obvious he was talking out of his arsehole even then.

Voronin told Goal and SPOX:
"Scouse. I understood almost nothing. When Carragher and Gerrard talked, I asked them to repeat it in English".

Scouse not English..

He doesn't mention Alder Hey.

And to be honest, nothing in what he says sounds unrealistic to me. Have heard some shocking GP stories from mates, who've experienced similar. Including having to really advocate to try to be taken seriously.

But the article says he took his kid to Alder Hey? Where else do you think he might be referring to?

He talks about going to the doctors. I assume a health centre or GP, not Alder Hey

Looks like the addition of Aldey Hey is an embellishment. It's not in the original articles:

https://www.standard.co.uk/hp/front/britain-s-a-cultural-backwater-with-poor-health-care-and-high-crime-says-liverpool-star-mr-Chelsea-who-s-married-to-the-worstdressed-wag-6615734.html

There's also a daily mail link that you can find the quotes in, without giving them a click. it says:

He goes on: 'The medical services here are poor. When I was in Germany, there were lots of good clinics and doctors.

'It is nothing like that here - when our child had a skin allergy we waited hours for the doctor to see him. When we finally got to see a doctor, he said he didn't know how to treat children and to try rubbing in this ointment.

'That was it. I was stunned. As a result my wife had to go back to Odessa with him and took a full set of tests there.'

I'm not convinced.
He's lying.
If it was a GP he would surely have added, ".. the receptionist seemed a little abrupt to me, so I gave her a piece of my mind to put her in her place! When I did see the doctor (GP), he ended the appointment by Googling about my child's condition on his computer. And he even told me to do the same when I got home!"
