I haven't watched Elm play a lot but have been impressed by Strootman whenever I have watched him play. Is Elm better than Strootman or are they in same level?
Different players mate. I rate Strootman but he's more a holding player, Elm a creator. Arguably, they'd compliment eachother quite well. Having said that, Elm is on a different level at the moment and would be cheaper than Strootman. Good passer, good vision, started to show an eye for goal more so this season. I rate him. Starter for Sweden and will most likely play against England at the Euros.

Elm started off strong, but has faded a lot just like the rest of AZ. The only player that has kept on performing was Martens, but he missed a large part of the start of the season so that's probably why. 18 year old Adam Maher is probably the best buy from AZ, but not sure if Liverpool are the right club to groom him.

Cheers mate. What is your opinion of him?Where does he play best?Any player in the PL who plays like him?
And is he as highly rated as some claim?

He's a very versatile player, which helps him. He'll play anywhere in midfield and won't stop running. He'll do well here, a typical league player you'll need to be competitive. He doesn't have one standout quality, he's an allrounder. I'd call him a light version of Steven Gerrard.
It's just sex and violence, melody and silence.

Liverpool is  busy in Holland.

http://www.vi.nl/nieuws/220279/Gewilde-spits-De-Jong-voert-druk-op-FC-Twente-flink-op.htm

Good striker  and has a great potential, don't know if he is ready for EPL, didn't impress me the last couple of games for twente.

Translation in English:

If FC Twente can not place for European football, that will not only financially but also sports heavy consequences. So let striker Luuk de Jong therewith his future depend upon it.

Last weekend confirmed Liverpool's interest in the 21-year-old international, who this season was 30 goals for FC Twente in 48 official matches.

"Luuk is closely followed by Liverpool," confirms agent Louis Laros, 'but there are certainly other fifteen clubs. With us already have three large clubs Champions League preliminary round, have been reported with the announcement that they actually want to do business with FC Twente. For now, we who for a moment. In the coming weeks, the cards are shuffled, we keep our eyes and ears open. "

"Luuk has great meaning to his FC Twente, but if the club fails to qualify for European football, it will be a lot less attractive to stay," explains Laros out.
De Jong's contract at FC Twente will continue until mid 2014.

Think Liverpool has a good chance with signing him.

Would Douglas from Twente be a good signing on a free. Hes out of contract in the summer. From the few times ive seen him seems a good player.

His contract isn't running out, Twente have the option to extend for a year, which they will. But he's a bit of a risk player. I think he'd suit English football as he's a strong guy, but he's a bit too emotional and impulsive. He can't go anywhere untill late august, so that's not ideal either. And he mentioned earlier today that he might stay with Twente for another year.

I'm surprised somebody hasn't made a move for him. Probably the most underrated Brazilian centre-back since Naldo at Werder Bremen.

He isn't leaving to any other club before late august this year because then he becomes elligible to play for the Dutch national team. But besides that he's had his share of inconsistency, and a bunch of weird actions. Has problems controlling himself at times.

Cheers, havent seen him much, was reading that his contract was up, but if as u say there is another yr on it, that would still leave him cheap. worth a punt maybe if we're phasing cara out next yr.

We have Coates for that. Maybe Kelly and Wisdom for 4th choice if need be.

Think Newcastle were linked to Douglas recently, and to Pieters aswell. But it wouldn't surprise me if Douglas not being available to move anywhere untill late august prevents clubs from taking him on this summer, he'd miss all season preparations.

With Aggers injury record and cara maybe gone next yr, plus the extra europa games, I think we need someone who can jump straight in and play important league games if need be. Wisdom is not ready yet and kelly will be either starting or covering right back. When has he last played centreback, dont see him being thrown in there.

Twente have turned down a bid of 7mil for him if rumours are to be believed. They want at least 10mil. This might mean that Douglas will see out his contract and eventually leave on a free next season so he can pretty much pick out any club he wants, especially since he will probably be a regular for Holland by then.

Any chance Liverpool could sign Mihaylov? Apparently he now qualifies for a EU visa and we have a buy back option for him. I reckon he's much better than Doni & Jones.

Other players I like the look of are Ola Johns, Kevin Strootman and Jans Vertonghen. They're probably the players I'd most like us to sign.

Don't think Mihaylov would come here to be backup. But he's certainly available for a decent price. He's requested in the winter to be transferred this summer. There's been negotiations with Benfica already.

The reason I like Vertonghen is because:
1. If Carra retires we need a CB
2. He the closet thing to Agger out there
3. He's good cover for Enrique
4. He's a goal threat
5. He's intelligent and would allow us to play 3-4-3
6. He could play DM in a pinch similar to Phil Jones

Why not? Is it because he has a lot of interest from more attractive clubs, that Ajax won't sell? We can't afford him? or that he'd have no interest in Liverpool?

Would have thought with one year on his contract Ajax would sell for under 15m.

I don't think he's interested in joining us in our current situation, based on what he has said. Money isn't a real motive for him. He's more interested in playing for the prizes at a nice club. He's even gone as far as saying he might not leave this summer yet, might finish out his contract at Ajax. And indeed, there's plenty of interest for him from clubs that fit his demands more than we do.

Sounds like Vertonghen is bound for Arsenal, don't think he'll be coming here. Think he'd get more opportunities here, but Champions League is always going to be attractive.

If he says he wants to be winning prizes there's no sense moving to Arsenal over Liverpool.

£12m for Luuk De Jong seems ridiculously cheap. I know Bryan Ruiz didn't go for more than that, but I would've thought at 21/22 they'd be looking higher for De Jong.

De Jong looks really good whenever I have seen him play. I still think Liverpool need a poacher who will put away all these chances we create. There isn't loads of them around though so I think De Jong would do well. Carroll would have to be used as a sub most times.

The attractive thing with De Jong other than age, price and talent is surely that he did reasonably well playing off a big target in Janko, so if needed he could play alongside Carroll?

No doubt it wouldn't be our first choice, but y'know, he may be one that can real Carroll's flick-on's.

Sounds like a battle between Spurs and Arsenal for Vertonghen. It's likely both will be able to offer Champions League football, but I think we'd probably be able to offer better personal terms. And we've actually won something recently!

And going by what Tony Barrett said when Comolli left, we are after a CB. Could do with a ball-playing one like Vertonghen - as great as Agger is, there's always that injury risk with him. His talent, age and price make him the perfect candidate. But maybe we've enquired and been told he'll only go to a Champions League side.

I get your way of thinking but I actually prefer the opposite. We need to get a striker that can play with Suarez, not the other way around. Get an experienced striker that can be both a mentor and competitor with Carroll is the better strategy imo.

Suarez is the priority mate. I just assumed off the top of my head that De Jong would be able to play with Suarez. The Carroll thing is a 'bonus'. First and foremost it's about getting a couple of players to bring the best out of Suarez. ... Any striker who can stand in the right place and tap it in would be a dramatic improvement.
