Another thing is Gakpo is going into the middle of the penalty area to shoot when he is fouled, for Arsenal yesterday the ball is already dead when Havertz drags his foot to win a pen as he can't score.

The amount we are done over is making it hard to enjoy football anymore, we just can't compete

He is 5'10. Is that tall enough for top-tier DM?

Nope.

Saka, Odegaard, Rice, Saliba
They are all very good players, no doubt. What have they done/won to be considered elite?

I dont think Slott has been hired for his CV in dutch football. Ten haag is all conquering there. Liverpool must believe in his potential.
What else would he be hired on? He's won the league with Feyenoord and had AZ joint top (but second) when the league was stopped for Covid. So demonstrable results with two different clubs. He's not "potential".

Slot's teams play in a similar way to us, which is why Ten Haag comparisons are lazy. He won with the Ajax structure behind him and was totally lost when he went to structureless United.

They should struggle last 4 games. Palace are playing very well at the moment, Newcastle are bang on form, Arsenal should turn them over and then Brighton away last day isn't easy. If they don't win tonight then it looks like they will finish 8th.

Fingers crossed.

I think I'd prefer to see them in the Europa Conference (with all the exertions that brings) than out of Europe altogether - but either is fine.  :)

Liverpool FC Forum / Re: Jürgen Klopp

Watched Chelsea women yesterday, and it was Emma Hayes last home game. She is a charismatic motivator like Klopp and has been instrumental in the growth of women’s football in this country. I had a lump in my throat because she thought Chelsea were out of the league race but City lost to Arsenal giving them a chance of winning on goal difference. What moved me was that the leaders in that team stepped up and rallied to beat Bristol City 8-0 to go 1+. They did it for Emma and 2 club legend players who were retiring.

She was open mouthed watching them and they were so focussed. It wasn’t just a manager pushing a team, it was a team of leaders pushing a manager who had given up. It made me think of how much we missed Henderson and Milner and how they might have supported a flagging Klopp to help get us over the line.

I have a feeling we will find out there has been tension behind the scene and some players have been focussed on where they will be next year as discussions got underway. A very cynical part of me wonders how Edwards and the new power base would have looked if Klopp had gone out with a blaze of glory with the team he put together winning the league. Any failures after that couldn’t be blamed on Klopps signings because he delivered with them.

Klopp deserved better and I am gutted for him … especially for the opportunity to say goodbye in Dublin. The league was a big ask but our name was on that trophy.

You don't have any elite players

Saka, Odegaard, Rice, Saliba

Gakpo trip was ok not being I think. He goes down like a dive even it wasnt.

The handball is insane though. One look and cleared. Guarantee they decided he headed it, which just isn't true. It's one of them where if it doesn't involve us they look at it 100 times over.

How he goes down doesn't matter. It's the foul that matters.

Not sure how to phrase that original title, but I think it should be OK to reference Israel without going into specific stuff that's going on...?

We shall see - so..

I've kind of stayed out of this subject as I'm not an expert, but I'm a bit concerned about some of the narrative. I'm not sure what the goal is here with this latest move:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-68961753

Al Jazeera office raided as Israel takes channel off air
press to cover up its crimes by killing and arresting journalists has not deterred us from performing our duty," the network said in its response to Sunday's ban.

I assume that it's about controlling the message to the domestic audience. Al Jazeera provides an alternatives source of news that is likely not flattering to those in charge.

The other story of yesterday:

Two late Arsenal goals against City delayed the title and threw a huge lifeline to Chelsea - who kicked off against Bristol knowing their match was a golden opportunity to not only resurrect their title hopes but also swing a big GD deficit in their favour. They understandably proceeded to win 8-0.

I reckon it's probably advantage Chelsea now. Marginally. But given the way this season's story is ending, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if Beth England bangs in a winner vs Chelsea to say the mother of all fuck yous.

The table ahead of Chelsea's game in hand + the final round of matches...

Chelsea vs Tottenham
Arsenal vs Brighton
Villa vs City
Bristol vs Everton
Leicester vs Liverpool
United vs Chelsea
Spurs vs West Ham
