Ghana's defending has been vulnerable and naive at times. They're only one or two players off being something special, though.

you'd think that after getting this far they would have been able to defend better

They're biggest crime was trying to play attacking football - with a high line - against a side like Brazil, who can punish you even when they're not at their best.

the most over-used expression in the world cup is that African teams are naive defensively, but its so fuckin true, pity

I don't see anything wrong with saying someone is fat and playing shit when they are fat and playing shit. Just because he is playing well now doesn't detract from the fact that he was abysmal against Croatia.
He was poor yes, but does one poor performance by a player who has showed time and ime again that he delivers on the top level. He will never dominate for 90 minutes, but why should he? No forward does that. But he's the best there is at the most difficult part of the game...and that is putting the ball into the net.

So I find it strange that people try to make Ronaldo a poor player, when he is clearly lacking matchfitness after a long injury break. It's kind of ignorant if you ask me.

Ronaldo now has 3 goals so far. He is the top scorer of all time. Bigger than Pele, bigger all of them. Still some journalists(and other idiots) seems to want to remember him as a lazy fat bastard.

I think Essien could have made a difference today. His energy would have made life hard for the likes of Kaka and would have covered his full-backs for the threat of Carlos and Cafa, who have excellent today, btw.

Will be sad to see Appiah leave the World Cup - he's been excellent but, like Argentina and Riquelme, you get the feeling that if he has an off-day, so does the team.

Game over.

he was also shite against Australia. The simple fact of the matter is that he is overweight and a lazy c*nt. Yes, he's good at putting the ball in the net, but thats not enough, IMO. If he was playing for a team that didnt have Brazil's abundance of attacking ability, he wouldnt get away with it.

Agree with that. I think if people are looking at him as an option for us, then I firmly believe Robbie will offer more than he could. Not what we need whatsoever.

OK, attention turns to Spain.

Prediction: scrappy, dogged, with a France win, unfortunately. Can see a 2-1 win for Les Bleus...

Hoping I'm wrong, mind but Spain haven't been tested against a decent side yet.

Sadly I think France might win it too. I think they will play defensively to stifle Spains flair, then hit Henry with it, who can outpace Spain's defence easily.

I think France will take them too. Dont know why really because they havent impressed me at all really, whereas Spain have. Can see it maybe being a 1-0 or even a 0-0 with France coming out on top in a shoot-out

Despite frequently exploiting Ghana's asinine offside trap, I'm still not all that impressed by Brazil. They haven't exactly conquered the mid-level teams they have played against and perhaps on another day with a better ref and some proper shooting boots on this could have been a slim Ghana victory. Hopefully Spain will be able to knock the Brazilians out.

The only way I can see france winning is for spain to bottle it once again.

Check this out... the list of Brazil's recent World Cup Finals opponents:

W - Ghana
W - Japan
W - Australia
W - Croatia
W - Germany (v.poor)
W - Turkey
W - England (Sven picking half fit player who bottled a tackle, handed them a goal)
W - Belgium
W- Costa Rica
W- China
W- Turkey
L - France (at the time a quality side)

In conclusion, the last time Brazil came up against a quality side in a World Cup finals, they were hammered.

You can only beat what's in front of you. France have struggled to so far in this competition. Brazil have won their last two games 4-1 and 3-0. Anyway, Spain or France next for them so we'll see if you're right.

Ghana didn't have any penetration what so ever. It was a walk in the park for Brazil. Looking forward to Spain vs France tonight. Should be a good game and hopefully we'll get a Spanish victory.

Good news for Spain - France are back with their slow and unimpressive side. Why no Trezeguet?

Shame though that they're going for Raul instead of Garcia.

Typical African team, play pretty well, shite defensively, not clinical enough in front of goal, end up losing.

Do not want to stereotype but that is very true. A couple of good wins over decent sides, they feel they can win them all. These teams must have greater tactical discipline. At this playing well with great flair is not enough. You need to play the right 'game'. To South Africa next ...
