Pop ups
« on: February 9, 2014, 10:50:38 am »
My computer is on it's last legs, anyway. But someone's been on it last night and I'm getting murdered with pop ups. As if to take the piss, as I'm trying to do this, I'm being blocked with a picture of Ronaldo in a Man U vodaphone shirt right now, telling me of all the related searches. I don't know if it's coming from that. but it's driving me crackers.

I use Fire Fox. I've got the pop up blocker on. I've ran anti-spy ware and a cleaner. I've scanned and found fuck all. I've even done 2 system restores. At least I'm back on the net. I couldn't get on at all earlier. 3 hours, and the bastards are still popping up... a jobs thing from facebook, bookies, porn and apparantly I've won an I-phone cos I'm the lucky 100000000 to hit on that site.

It's doing me head in. I'm going to try downloading a pop up blocker. But if any of you tech savvy people can help, it'll be much appreciated. I need to do a load of emails and some other cack today. So

Have you tried Ad Aware Leo? There is a free version. Also Adblock is great .

Download this:

And run the scan.  Might work.
I've got that and ran it. No good.

I'm just trying to download one. Stopzilla. If it doesn't work. I'll try Adblocker. It's my son, looking at ladyboys or something when we're all in bed, the prick.

I think it's coming from Facebook. I keep getting all these Facbook job things popping up. And the lad's the only one that uses it. I'll batter him about 4pm when he usually gets up.

He's too fuckin' lazy to even look at them. Fuckin' grands on a university education, and I'm forgetting the colour of his eyes. I haven't seen him awake in about 2 years

The ladyboy gag was in the Ronaldo bit. But fuck knows what he gets up to. University education, does fuck all all day, gets up when everyone else goes to bed, thinks the world and it's wife owes him, should join the tory party. He'd go down well with Boris and that gang. Just running that stopzilla. Took about a month to download it. IF it doesn't work, I'll hit him on the head with the computer. Might fix one or both if I'm lucky.

I will now. Thanks. Malware bytes can't find it. And that stopzilla thing was a waste of time. One of them, gives a free scan, then it has to be bought but didn't tell me that.

Fuck knows what it is. I've got pop blocker on, but right now I'm being battered with all the lovely things I just have to click and claim. Shame I don't want a free bet, an I phone or subscribtion to gimp porn. Since half 7 this morning I've been trying to fix it. Driving me mental.

I can't see anything in there. Google translate and youtube HD or something. I've had enough, though. I've spent all day, and it's still there. Ran and downloaded allsorts trying to fix it. It seems to be a bad one. Thanks for all the help, but I'm calling it a day. Done me head in.

It's like living with The Borrowers. I know somebody's here, because I hear noises. And when I get up of a morning, there's loads of food disappeared and the kitchens full of dirty pots, pan and dishes, and my computers bollocksed... here we fuckin go again. But I know how to fix it now, just had to get that off my brains before I knock a hole in a wall and seal a bedroom with that foam malarkey.

If he's managed to pick up one of those little trojan bastards, just when you think everything is OK it all goes to shit again.  Seriously fucking frustrating.

I hope you have nailed it but if you haven't a good tip I was given by our IT guy was to switch off the system restore, boot into Safe Mode and run Malwarebytes from there.  The free version doesn't offer real time protection but is largely unsurpassed at giving the system a thorough sweep.

Safe Mode switches off all the non-essential stuff and makes it harder for the viruses to pose as system files.  Some of these viruses can also loiter in the system restore files, only to rear their ugly little heads at a later date.  Temporarily switching it off deletes all these files - you can set a new restore point manually when you are done.

If you don't already use it CCleaner is excellent for getting rid of all the unwanted crap that builds up in your system and can also be used to clean the registry.  More for maintenance really but I always like to use it after I have been infected, makes me feel clean again.  I've used it many times on computers at work and at home when my little darlings have been downloading unsavory material.

Apologies if there is a thread on this that I have missed.

What is everyone using/ recommending for adblock purposes? Seems like adblock plus has been getting worse over the last few months and now seems to have completely given up. All recommendations welcome!

Plus a few sites are now blocked if you have Adblocker Plus turned on, so i've gone to using UBlock Origin, it's irritating that sites block adblock programs yet the sites are unviewable if you don't have adblock on because of the ads.

uBlock Origin.

I started using that when someone recommended that on Rawk in the Dave thread and it's pretty good,i notice less irritating popups on football streaming links than before, and also less permissions as well.

I always used Adblock Plus before.

Can anyone recommend the best way to deal with the below?

This pop up windows have started appearing on the right hand side of the page. When I click on the x more appear until I've clicked about 6/7 times and they've all gone. Clicking on the cog takes me to the options page of chrome. I have adblocker and have tried entering the website on the list of those to block. Googling has come up with no solutions and a system restore hasn't done anything. I was thinking maybe uninstall chrome. Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks

Morning everyone...

I was googling something recently and when I clicked on the article I have accidentally subscribed to or agreed to alert myself to new articles from this website. It's a website called laptopmag.co.uk or something but every time they publish a new article, I get an alert - a little screen pops out bottom right and I can click on it to take me to the article.

However, I cannot for the life of me find out how to get rid of this in the settings.

Any clues?? :butt

If it is Chrome you will likely have clicked Allow when it asked to be able to send notifications. Go to Settings, Advanced, Site Settings > Notifications, and look for the site in the Allowed section, then remove it.
