Pujara has really destroyed us. Always going to score big when your no3 can’t get out.

Aus bowling has been bad.

India have done what you need to do. Bat first make at least 350. You always go a long way to win the match from there.

What’s been shocking is how easily Aus how capitulated when put up against it. Aus have looked void of energy and ideas as soon as India start to get on top. India have rightly then put Aus to the sword.

The India pace attack was the best I’ve seen.

Then India added Jadeja who bowled well in at 8 and it went from a long tail to a scary lower order.

India have been impressive and been excellent in the important sessions. Aus have selected badly. Batted badly. Bowled mostly badly. And played without heart.

Read an article about the underlying bowling numbers pre and post the Aussies getting caught cheating and it doesn’t shine a good light on past achievements by Australian bowlers. I’m sure there all kinds of aspersions out there already, but we have had a decent enough period to compare now.

That’s a bit harsh. It’s very difficult for Mitchell Starc to avoid rough, abrasive surfaces with a complexion like his.

That’s a bit simple. More like the stats since our captain and vice captain and two best batsmen were banned. And our entire culture was nuked.

You act like our entire bowling was based around old ball hooping it all over the place.

Take your opportunity though.

All kinds of ball tampering affects new ball swing as well as reverse. Seeing as we know what ‘culture’ was OK from the captain down, who knows what else Australian sides have been up to for years/decades.

Even NZ sides have been accused of ball tampering as far back as the 70/80s.

Chandimal was banned for 3 or 4 tests for ball tampering only few months back.

Not when Rabada is bowling.

As good as he is, even he can be nullified on a road somewhere expected to bowl 24 hit-me-balls in some t20 bash-a-thon where the point is vulgar slogging and his every little dot-ball victory is a shame for the broadcasters.

I heard Will Pucovski was out with something mental health related so hopefully he can sort that out and throw himself in there as well.

Yeah came back and played a round at the start of the month before the bbl started which is a great sign. Does have me worried though.

Well lads....

Pucovski called into the squad for Sri Lanka.

Interesting. So Finch, Marsh brothers and Handscomb out. Burns, Renshaw, and Pucovski in.

They would have to give Burns the opening spot with Harris which would be a combo they should stick with for the foreseeable future. Gotta give Burns a long run.

I liked the look of Labuschagne in that last test. Used his feet, looked decent. They'll need to keep him in.

No true all-rounders in the squad so it'll be either Renshaw (an opener) or Pucovski (top order) down at 6 I'd think. I hope they go Pucovski just because Renshaw isn't that sort to bat anywhere. He's an opener.

Burns (29)
Harris (26)
Khawaja (32)
Labuschagne (24)
Head (25)
Pucovski (21)
Paine (34)
Cummins (25)
Siddle (34)
Lyon (31)
Hazlewood (28)

Young team. But I'd like to see it.

Don’t mind the look of that team. How come you would opt for Siddle over Starc? Starc has been in terrible form I know but perhaps still more dangerous in Australia than Siddle.

As for Pucovski I haven’t seen him play so can’t comment on his ability but surely Maxwell is the better option? Experienced and has played in England - so surely a better number 6 for the ashes?

Yeah I agree. Maxwell really should be the no6. But traditionally we've blooded talented young top order batsmen at 6. Was done with many of our best ever and we haven't done it that way for a long while so I don't dislike. But yes, the best would be Maxwell. I haven't seen anything but highlights of Pucovski but has had a big wrap.

As I've said, Starc is only dangerous with the new ball and old ball and recently not doing enough with either of those. We might not produce batsmen but we produce bowlers. If he's not doing justice to the new and old ball get someone in who will. See if Cummins can use it well and if not Siddle will get the seam correct. Plus he's very experienced in England and was underused last time over there. Siddle will take wickets in Australia. I think we underrate him.

So the first test match of 2019 for England starts this week, it's about time too as it feels like ages since England have played a test. I have to say that in the their last test series to get a 3-0 whitewash in Sri Lanka is very impressive. Anyone willing to start a new thread for this one? :D

Predicted teams for the first Test? Hard to predict with so many options these days but I’d say:

Burns
Jennings
Bairstow
Root
Stokes
Buttler
Ali
Foakes
Curran
Broad
Anderson

Although that looks a spinner light. Think Rashid might play in place of Stokes (feels unlikely) or Curran.

Or do you be harsh and drop Foakes as Buttler or Bairstow are more than capable of keeping?

Anyone watching the South Africa Sri Lanka first test?

Been an incredible second innings by Sri Lanka needing 304 to win, Perera scored 153 to win it with 1 wicket remaining.

Great finish to the S Africa - Sri Lanka test in Durban. Sri Lanka needing 304 were 226-9, and then Perera hits 153 n.o. and guides them to victory.

Wow that is what separates Test Cricket as the greatest sport, I was glued to the TV over the last 2 hours yet had no interest in either team. I was cheering with every run & could feel the heart rate going up.

Must be one of the greatest Sri Lankan test innings of all time, surely. Over half of his side's runs, while shielding the tail too.

Brilliant! Watched the highlights from yesterday and at 80 odd for 3 thought they’d lose from there.

Bowled SA out relatively cheaply twice, some spinner got a 5fer on dayboo. Life in Sri Lanka yet?

Useless fuckers just rolled over.

Pfaugh!
