This goes against all logic just gifting them runs and this is problem with Stokes at times "its all lool at me arent I different, think outside the box"

Very disappointing but hardly a real surprise; particularly given England’s history of middle order collapses. Still in with a squeak, but let them off the hook with both bat and ball.

At the end of the 3pm kick offs yesterday this was shaping up to be a really good sporting weekend. Nothing but shite and misery since then. Please sort that out later Reds.

Just woke up to see India have collapsed. 5 down and still need 70 odd. England favourites again

Only needs one half decent partnership and someone like Ashwin still to come. I’d make India favourites still.

Sort of game where if we lose we’ll be kicking ourselves. Hard to argue against the fact we let them get 50 too many in the first innings, or could easily have cobbled together another 20-30 in both our innings.

Can’t see anything but an India win by 3 or 4 wickets. Too much batting in their middle/lower order compared to ours.

I don't understand why people hailed Bazball as this great revolution in test cricket, the results England have achieved with this approach are pretty similar to what they had before Bazball

It’s not perfect but it’s an improvement on what went before. We’ve lost this series, and we may lose it 4-1, but we’ve been a lot more competitive than the last tour. We drew the home series with Australia (same as four years previous) but again, felt like we were more aggressive than the last tour.

There’s room for improvement and I think some players are on borrowed time. But if we continue to play more aggressively we should win more than we lose.

My feelings is that Stokes and McCullum’s approach has pushed us further than we should have gone with the current rebuild happening. Root aside, we have either players not at their peaks or just seriously injury prone, and England as a whole is struggling with the long game.

Under most I reckon this is a 5-0, and not a competitive match in sight. England have made it entertaining and a good feel amongst the team and fans that watch. Long term hopes need to come from above Stokes/McCullum, and it needs to be recognised by the higher ups that Test cricket is one of the most entertaining sports.

Also the term ‘bazball’ is fucking annoying.
We already have shit in the country, and the game of Liverpool fills life with joy. Thanks

Isn't ‘bazball’ always going to be a temporary style of play for this England side as McCullum isn't going to be around forever and Stokes is 33 this year and can't have many more matches in those knees?

I just wish they would rein it in sometimes and play the situation more sensibly instead of trying to win a test match in 3 days come what may.

If they could strike a balance between being really positive with the bat and just asserting control of the test match it would go a long way to seeing us win tests and series. Is there anything wrong with for example just playing out the last session of a day and coming back in the morning to make hay while the sun shines?

As quickly as we seemingly take control of a test with big run rates we crumble and let sides back in.

That said we've performed better in this series than most expected. But is that because of 'bazball' or because India have not been great and are missing big players? It does feel like a big opportunity missed as we have been more than competitive in this series.

Er, no. Not immediately before anyway. You'll have to go back to our dominant years before you see results similar to what we've achieved under Bazball.

3rd Test underway, England 137/3. Another reasonable start and then threw a couple of wickets away just before  Lunch. Pope out stumped coming down the wicket. Crawley just out for 79. Shame for him, made 4 50s but no ton this series. Really should be kicking on in some of these innings.

Quite a bit of work to do. Seems very chilly there (this is the game up in the Himalayas) so must feel like an early County Championship game in Durham (with a better backdrop).

Well that's interesting, turns out me putting it on isn't the cause of collapses. I avoided watching when I got up thinking we'd be 300-4 in no time.

I checked the core before I left to walk my daughter to score. 167/3. Thought if we can get a couple of 50 partnerships from here we should at least get close to 300 as a minimum. Ten minute walk to school, thought I’d be brave at stick the radio on. First ball I hear, Hartley hits a 4. 175/6. Three wickets (and all key batsmen) on a ten minute walk to school. We’ve really underperformed in the middle order this series.

Fair play to India. They’ve been missing multiple key players all throughout the series yet are still looking a more than decent chance of walking away with a 4-1 series win.

McCullum arrived in May 22.

We'd just lost in the Windies, lost the Ashes 4-1, lost at home to India, lost at home to New Zealand, lost to India in India and beat Sri Lanka in the six series before 'Bazball' (W1, D0, L5)

And we've beat New Zealand, beat South Africa, beat Pakistan, drew with New Zealand, drew the Ashes and are now losing in India in the six series since (W3, D2, L1)

Similar in a way, sure. As in...played roughly the same teams? Each match had roughly the same amount of..wickets? They were played on roughly similar pitches?

Jimmy Anderson with Blonde hair! I remember going blonde back in 1985, in recent years my hair has started to go blonde again naturally. Only it is a different shade of blonde nowadays.

Exactly, the England 2012 Test series win in India was exceptional and arguably bigger than the 2011 Ashes Series win in Australia. It was the first win in India since 1985, when I had blonde hair! India currently hold the record for consecutive test series wins at home with 17, a streak that began by defeating Australia in 2013. In fact England were the last team to win a series there.

Also in that time, they have only lost four test matches - two of those to England, the second of which was on this tour.

I think this is odds on now. Pity that the series has ended up so one-sided - the lack of posts in this thread is testament to it; sport needs genuine competition.
