Yes, many times.
Recommended if price is not important.

£229 tax only, had a load of BMI points to use before they may cease to exist. Four flights from Manchester to Athens via Munich both ways.

Indeed. And I doubt BA will have the coverage from mancland that Star Alliance do with BMI, Lufthansa and Swiss as is now.

Anyone done business class on Lufthansa short to medium haul?

I went business from Manchester to Frankfurt - it wasn't anything special.

Long haul they are great though - highly recommend

Qatar and Etihad also fly to Melbourne, as do Singapore.  Out of those lot after recent experience Qatar, but I hear Singapore are by far the best carrier!

Quick question:

I'm flying to Melbourne with work on the 20th of December, and the office are - strangely - refusing to fly me any higher than economy.

I might upgrade myself if the terms are ok, but that's another question for another day.

Who would you recommend flying with if you had to go that distance (LHR - MEL)?

Most on here will know I'm an Emirates boy, but if anyone's got a strong opinion either way i'm happy to take advice on this one. I've never been to Oz, so i'm flying blind on this one.

Much thanks, Dan

I'd do Singapore Airlines if you could get a a decent airfare.

I would stick with Emirates mate. They are the best airline I have ever flown with to Australia so I would go with them.

Difficult to avoid Emirates having looked at the prices.

I also can't overlook the fact that now I'm Gold on Skywards there's a half decent chance of an upgrade along the way somewhere, and one of those emails which I've had a few of recently allowing me to upgrade on the cheap.

That said the Singapore Airlines flight I've got up here is giving me the chance to have a decent stopover in Singapore. Hmmmm.

Same price...

If you haven't been to Singapore before..well worth the stop over.

Having recently flown with Emirates and Singapore I'd say you can't go wrong with either of them. Although if you are stopping over then it's Singapore all the way - amazing airport and as somneone else mentioned, the stewardesses are ridiculously fine.Makes the journey so much more enjoyable!!!

A word on behalf of Aer Lingus.

I was due to fly from Faro, Portugal back to Cork, Ireland recently and as I was waiting for my cab to the airport, I got a text from AL saying Faro airport was closed due to storm damage, then a message saying the flight was cancelled and giving a number to contact to reschedule.

I spoke to them and they said next flight Faro/Cork was not for another few days, I said no good to me, I have to get back to work. I found out there was a flight from Lisbon to Cork later that same day, but AL told me that although they could get me on that flight, there was no way I would get there in time on public bus or train and they weren't laying on a private bus.

So I said I could take a cab. They said go for it and make sure you get a receipt and send it on to their head office in Dublin. So, a nice drive complete with guide info from the driver, 275 km and €345 later, I was happily boarding the Lisbon Cork flight.

I got home no problem, sent off my receipt, got a letter back saying really sorry about all the palaver and cheque was on the way. Subsequently I received a cheque for €345 and they then telephoned me to make sure I got it.

Which was nice.

Oh right.

It's just that my story shows them to be Kings and Queens of Air Travel. Do you have a story which supports your "statement of fact"?

Off to Saudi via Doha on Saturday and back the same way through Wed night. Could of gone straight to Dammam via Heathrow with BMI for £150 cheaper but i really like Qatar Airways and it's on the company  ;)

Anyone ever been longer haul with BMI?

Mate, never fly into Dammam airport unless you have half a lifetime to spare waiting to pass immigration and customs. Far better to land in Bahrain and get Majestic taxis to take you across the causeway.

Don't I fucking know it. 2hrs tonight but it was 3hrs earlier in the year. The immigration guys are just sheer rude too. c*nts.

The flights with Qatar on the other hand were class once again.

Going to New York in Feb with Continental. On way out we go via Toronto. We can reserve seats on all flights bar the Heathrow to Toronto leg and I have noticed it is a CO code but it's operated by Air Canada.

I guess that means its an Air Canada plane we go out on and that's why we can't pick our seats? The other thing is on my eticket it does not give me a terminal number. Continental is Terminal 3 and Air Canada is terminal 4. Any ideas Rawkites?

Have an impending 12 hour stopover at Dubai International airport in a couple of days.  Any recommendations about what to do ?  Been reading some stuff on the internet and they seem to be quite scathing in general about how poorly run the airport is.  Anyone got any experiences please do let me know.  Cheers !
Quote from: Dion Fanning

The chants for Kenny Dalglish that were heard again on Wednesday do not necessarily mean that the fans see him as the saviour. This is not Newcastle, longing for the return of Kevin Keegan. Simply, Dalglish represents everything Hodgson is not and, in fairness, everything Hodgson could or would not hope to be.

good luck. one of the most boring places on earth.
you could walk from one end of the new terminal to the end of the old one to kill an hour.
I was there for 3 hours a couple of days ago waiting for a connecting flight, and I hate the place. Waited hours and hours in Dubai airport over the years and it's the one thing I hate about flying with Emirates.
The bit where you have to go through security again to go to departures is disorganised, and a pain in the arse.
I did noticed that there is a new sleep zone, which I assume is like a pod for sleeping with a bed, in the old terminal. so my advice would be to get some sleep, not forgetting to set your alarm obviously.

What do you expect to do in an airport?..........watch a circus?, Have a crack on some go-karts?, take painting lessons?

You entertain yourself. Take a PSP or a Nintendo........get your laptop out and watch a movie perhaps? Failing that the "shopping" at Dubai will as you say, kill an hour............the Irish Village complete with Pork filled Irish Breakfast and copious flaggons of Kilkenny will kill the rest.

By the way, if the man is on an Emirates flight, and has a 12 hour stop over, he should be getting a free room to sleep and rest/wash up in on the third level.
