A word on behalf of Aer Lingus.
I was due to fly from Faro, Portugal back to Cork, Ireland recently and as I was waiting for my cab to the airport, I got a text from AL saying Faro airport was closed due to storm damage, then a message saying the flight was cancelled and giving a number to contact to reschedule.
I spoke to them and they said next flight Faro/Cork was not for another few days, I said no good to me, I have to get back to work. I found out there was a flight from Lisbon to Cork later that same day, but AL told me that although they could get me on that flight, there was no way I would get there in time on public bus or train and they weren't laying on a private bus.
So I said I could take a cab. They said go for it and make sure you get a receipt and send it on to their head office in Dublin. So, a nice drive complete with guide info from the driver, 275 km and €345 later, I was happily boarding the Lisbon Cork flight.
I got home no problem, sent off my receipt, got a letter back saying really sorry about all the palaver and cheque was on the way. Subsequently I received a cheque for €345 and they then telephoned me to make sure I got it.
Which was nice.
