Fair enough, Alves didn't have the best of games last night. But from what I've seen of him over the course of the whole season, he looks a very good player. Going forward (which is his strength and the part of his game in which I'd be most interested), he looks assured and confident, the kind of player who can make things happen. Even playing below par last night, he set up some good chances for his strikers (including a beautiful little layoff near the end which Kanoute blasted over the bar). And much like it would be unfair to judge the top scorer in Spain for a poor performance last night, I think it would also be unfair to judge Alves on the strength of one match.

I also think it would be rash to judge him harshly because of his height. He's 5ft8, the same size as Ashley Cole (and Jermaine Pennant, the player whose position he'd be fighting for). I believe that Alves would be a good signing for what he would bring going forward. I don't envisage him playing right-back for Liverpool with Finnan and Arbeloa already at the club. And I think he would offer every bit as much defensively as Pennant would, and probably more going forward on a more consistent basis too.

That's only my opinion, though.

Berbatov is a class act and probably one of the most underrated players of the season...... he would be an asset to us
I presume that bit is a joke?

id go with that

he is more likely to be bought as a winger who can play right back if needed
seville just play him as both at the same time

Just change the colour of the nets. We used to always when the title when the nets at anfield were red,  we changed them to white and have not won the title. coincidence?

my summer dealings would be - sell crouch (sorry pete, I love you muchly) and shift Babel into what he so obviously is and then get Quaresma and Mancini or equivilent for a tidy sum....

I thank you for listening to this....

Messi.. now there's a top class player. Totally shredded the US in the second half of a game at the Copa America. Every time I've seen him play I've been impressed.

Sell Crouch, buy David Silva for left wing, and play Babel as a striker.

Kaka and Messi

29.09.2007 - 10:57 h. Marca

THE WHITE EQUIPMENT LOSES TO ONE OF THE JEWELS DE SU QUARRY
The Liverpool takes to the Messi of Madrid
MARK. Blow to the white quarry. The Liverpool has removed Gerardo Bruna, mediapunta of 16 years that was one of per them of the inferior categories. With Barcelona removing chest with Messi, Giovani and Bojan, Madrid hoped to give pelotazo with Bruna shortly, a bred Argentine boy in Spain of great talent. Benítez gave the approval to the draftee of the player.

It changes the market
The equipment every time spends more money in the crossings of players and for that reason they have decided to send itself to the youthful market. They look for young people talents in other clubs, in other countries and they fichan them to play in the inferior categories of its club, in many occasions with astronomical pays. For the adolescent it is a irrechazable opportunity and for the clubs an investment in the long term.

The English, first
The club English was first in initiating this policy of draftees. In 2003 the Arsenal fichó to an adolescent who blunted ways in the Masía, Cesc Fábregas. It played in the inferior categories of the London set until it gave the definitive jump to the first group. Years later, Fran Mérida followed his way. With only 16 years the young soccer player left the azulgrana discipline to file by the Arsenal. Giovanni two Saints or Leo Messi are the clearest examples of than our equipment also has followed this new policy.

This last year has been able to mark before and later. Athletic fichó to the Argentinean Pacheco of 16 years, the Manchester took control of the services of Australian of 9 years and the Bayer fichaba to a Peruvian player of 13 years. A policy risks, since nothing guarantees that these small talents become the stars that are expected.
for those of you watching in black and white Liverpool are the team with the ball

Well in.

We have been yearning for a skillful midget El Zhar just doesn't cut it.

Is he 16?

If so has long time left to play first team football.

I have been a big fan of Peter Crouch, but he has been very disappointing the last couple of months and to be honest I think we should sell him in January.
Then buy Huntelaar as a replacement if possible.
